Default Cheap LS400 brakes

Hey all, just wanted to share some of my quick research info. If you want some LS400 front brakes, I've been able to piece everything together for a fairly decent price. Shipping varies depending on your location, but:

Calipers from Rock Auto: $53 + $30 core/each
Pads: Your choice, I got Ferodo from Rock Auto for $57
Rotors from Advance Auto: $25/each

So, with shipping and core charge I'm getting all new LS400 brakes with reman. calipers for $296 shipped, if I get them some rotors and get the core charge back the total cost is only $236. Not too bad!

The only bad part is that my last experience with Rock Auto was a little shakey. I ordered Z32 calipers that they shipped to New Jersey for some reason, two weeks later they finally showed up in a TORE UP box to my address. Customer service was okay, very resistant at first blamed everything on me, but I tactfully opened up a can of whoop a$$ over the phone and he was good after that. I've also heard their Supra TT calipers are actually NA Supra calipers too, so beware of that. Otherwise I've had good service with them.

EDIT:

Well, it turns out Advance does not have those cheap rotors anymore, next step up is $46 each, free shipping. Otherwise RockAuto has the same rotors for $36 each plus about $15 each for shipping, so either way works, or your favorite Ebay special....still below $300 when all is said and done.

I won't be sending any core in unless they accept GS300 calipers as a core, which they probably don't.

I'm sorry, they didn't have photos of the Ferodo pads and rotors, but you can imagine it if you close your eyes and think hard

I will try to post pictures of the install when it all gets here (I have been really bad at taking progress pics lately), the rotors will be the LIMFAC, they won't ship until 5 Feb but I will be painting up the calipers in the mean time I guess...it's nice to paint brand new calipers instead of having to do clean up used ones. Just be sure to mask off the dust boots!

They are 4 pot (4 piston), late 95-00 LS400 calipers are all the same 4 piston calipers... supposed to be a bolt on with minor modifications. You have to trim the caliper and one of the tie rod bolts slightly, and use LS400 caliper bolts or stock GS with a washer. A popular upgrade for SC's too, sometimes those guys sell them for decent prices too. Do a search, there's write ups.
