Default Automatic Tranny, what hp are they good to?

Hey guys,

Wondering what kind of horsepower a Aristo transmission can take? I owned a JZA80 with auto that made 540whp with no problems.

What a safe limit is for this transmission?

thanks,

I hope not. I'm making close to 400 rwhp on an Aristo tranny. Toyota generally overbuilt the crap out of these components.

well ur lucky then lol i know vindreal said in one of his threads
"3. How will my transmission handle a turbo?
Your transmission will be under more stress, it will also be forced to shift quicker. According to the research ive found , Stock gs300 transmissions can handle upto 310-350 Wheel Horsepower, However A mechanic i met told me his 2jzge tranny took 365 to the wheels, and when he pushed 380 his tranny failed. Remember everyone's transmission's condition is different"
just wondering aaron what have you done to your gs? cuz ur almost double mine

Forgot to specify. This is a Twin Turbo Aristo transmission if it makes a difference.

540 was on borrowed time. 450 is about as far as I'd go without a build up.

Borrowed time? the car ran like this for 2 years... and is still running today with the exact same setup. It MIGHT be built as Phoenix Power SPL is the build holder on the car, we didn't look any further into it.

Here is a link to find the car, it made 679 PS for them at high boost on a auto tranny, we only ran 15 psi. I have confirmed with them this is the exact same car!

First 2JZ section (top) and 15's place!

my last Aristo trans went halfway thru an (accidental) 23 psi pull. Read 409hp/496tq at 4900rpm on a Mustang Dyno when the tranny went. To be fair this is a tranny I drifted a full 3 seasons on and daily drove for that long too, at about 360hp.

My current one, I'm running 380whp and a medium size tranny cooler, drifting in competition and have no problems. I think you can do 400 on a street driven Aristo trans and not have a problem, as long as you run a tranny cooler.

Ya came with a greddy cooler from Japan. Really nice unit, also has a Supra Koyo radiator and they modified the mounts to fit it. Very clean work.
