hi guys,
I am new in here, I just bought a 1996 GS300, car is very nice and its like a dream i am leaving right now since i've been looking for 1 since long time.
yeserday i was on highway and noticed rpm at around 2700 at 100 kmph or 60 mph. question is if it is normal?
guys with the 5 speed tranny running at those rpms?
thanks for ur input

i did replace the ecu and that fixed the problem, but again, it could be your tranny, a solenoid, or the ecu. PITA it was to figure out.
Does it sometimes go down to around 2K rpms when you're at 60mph? Because when I had this problem i'd say 5% of the time it worked how it was supposed to and 95% of the time it was at high revs.
I knew mine was the ECU because sometimes it worked fine, like its supposed to.

i think i have the same problem. car wont lock-up or go to 4th gear. mine is a 93 with 118XXX miles. i notice it after i took of the battery for almost 8 hours to be re-charged. when i put it back on. an drove it home i notice. im at 3800rpm doing 75mph. i thought its kinda wierd. so i started playing with the o/d botton and it's not down shifting. but when i turned the a/c on then it shifted to the final gear, and when i hit o/d it down shifted.but when i turn off the a/c it dosent lock-up again. im not sure if my ecu needs to be reset, by taking off the EFI Fuse. ill try it tomorrow. hopefully nothings wrong with my tranny.

wow i had the same problem in my car, yesterday when i was going to work, my car was going up a hill and it was rolling back when it was in a drive position. so i turned off my car and played with the gears then it finally started running, then i was going like 20-30mph and my rpm was like 6k. so right now my car is suck at lexus because i work right next to dem, they said it might be my tranny slipping

that doesn't mean it will stay that way, but if it happens again, at least you'll be sure it was the ECU
as to lexus saying the tranny is slipping, you should be able to feel it slip, like your car tries to make the next gear and then can't hold it or just jumps back up. If it doesn't even try to, the problem is the ECU. I had this exact problem when I got my car. The reason it got confusing for me was because the ECU would work sometimes, making it rev where it was supposed to, then it would jump up to high revs out of nowhere. Thats why I was confused if it was slipping or if it was the ECU.
end of the day, it was the ECU. I'd get that changed before thinking its the tranny.
