Default Thinking about getting into a 1st Gen GS300...

Hello folks, just like the title states, I've been thinking about picking up a 1st gen GS300. What are the best years of this body style? Pros and cons about the car? Maintenance costs and common problems? Would you suggest of buying a high mileage GS300 (around 200K miles or so?) Your inputs would be appreciated thanx...

These cars are great. No matter what year you get as long as they have been maintianed well. High miles means nothing to these engines...as most were taken care of pretty well since its a luxury car.

There are definitely issues as you'd expect with older, high mileage cars. Probably the more expensive items are the power steering rack, the crank shaft pully, and the idler bearing assembly. The 96-97s had 5 speed automatic transmissions and failures have been reported. I like mine a lot, but there are maintenance costs to the tune of more than $2K this year. It's less than a car payment by far. A search will reveal the whole littany of issues from mechanical to cosmetic. There are way more cosmetic things than mechanical. Welcome to the forum.

even if it has 200k, i bet you most of them will run real good still. my last one has 198k, very minor problems but the body was in pretty good shape and motor ran real good. mine was a 95. love these cars
