20 offset or 40 offset?
so i just lowered my car this past sat. and i have 17s on it for now. but i want 18x8 in the front and 18x9.5 in the rear. and the wheels im looking at come in two offsets, 20+ and 40+...which offset would look better?

If you get 18x8/9.5 in +20, you will probably need to roll your fenders to fit the wheels. The fronts might be ok without a roll, but the rears will def need to get rolled.
If you get the same wheels in a +40 offset, they'll be sunk into your wheel well and you'll need spacers to get them more flush.
In essence +20 will look nicer but require fender rolling, +40 will not need fender rolling, but additional work to make it look flush/nice.

i was on tanabe springs and my wheel specs were 19x8.5/9.5 with +35 offsets and this is how my wheels looked for fitment (the springs hadn't settled out at this point, it got lower)
a +20 offset would push those things out pretty far. I'm no expert, but that much more offset, IMO would have the wheels too far out. Rolling or serious negative camber would be needed. Of course, rolling the fenders will give that nice flared look
I actually vote for the +20 offset wheels. Get someone who does some good fender rolling and after its done, you'll have some beast wheels with great fitment. If you get the +40s, it'll be too conservative. Do it once and right!
What do the wheels look like?

Rolling the fenders isn't that big of an issue. It might cost a little but an average joe can get the job done by renting the right tool and researching how to do it and being patient when you go about it. Or for a little bit of money just pay a shop to do it, you might as well spend the little extra while you're here. But you might as well give it a shot, because if you mess up, you'll be probably be bringing it to a shop anyways ....so you're good to give it a try and it might work out for the best. +20s will simply look alot better and have a big effect on the cars overall look over +40s

the wheels im looking at are TSW snetterton 18x8-245/40 in the front and 18x9.5-275/35 in the rear.
so you guys are thinking the +20s? im sure i could find a place to roll my fenders. but would the +20s give me bad tire wear? or would it change tire wear?

Now before everyone starts claiming this a a stretch tire set-up , this is not..It is a slightly narrow tire for the rear but you make up for it in the height(40 for example) and it is also only a 9.5 not a 10 or bigger. Im very familiar with what fits our first gens and this will work.

Thats not entirely true..You will not have to roll your fenders if you run the right size tire. You can run a 235 or even a 245 on that 9.5 wheels and you will be fine.Lexatlast is comparing the fitting of a 19 opposed to a 18" setup which allows more clearance without having to roll, pull or shave.Go with the +20 and run 225/40/18 for the fronts and 235/40/18 or 245/40/18 for the rears. This setup will ride very well, give the clearance you need and fill the wheels wells to give the wheels a bigger look.

I'm still all for boxcarfan to get the +20 offset regardless

But johnee, even with a tire thats more narrow, wouldn't the rear tires be out a significant amount? Regardless of wheels disc size, those rears would be 9.5" width on a +20 offset. Tanabe springs would give a touch of camber to help fitment, but would changing from a 275 to 245 give enough clearance?

so on the front with 18x8 i should run 225/40/18 and on the rear with 18x9.5 i should run 245/40/18? it does sound like it would strech the tire, but i will take you word for it.
but if i want to run 18x8 in the front with 245/40/18 and 18x9.5 in the rear with 275/35/18. in order to run that all i would have to do is roll the fenders and all will be well?
keeping in mind that im going with the +20s in all this...
*Oh and i look on tirerack.com and they acutally give the tire width in inches. and they have a chart setup so you can see a range of rim widths that will fit a certian tire width. and from what johnee said, it will work. lol. but i kinda wanna roll the fenders for a little more flared look in the fenders...
