Default Water in trunk

Hi Guys,

I just found out that there is a lot of water in my trunk, I don't know where it came from, the seal around the trunk is good. The water is almost full in my spare tire compartment. Is any one have this problem with 1st GS300 before and what is the symptom. Thanks.

Water in the trunk is a notorious 1GS problem.

Please search in the future - "water in trunk" will bring up lots of threads like this one...

or this one that has the SAME title as your thread...

Hi Guys,

I spent a lot of time tried to find out where got into my trunk. Some suggested check drain hole for sunroof, well I open mine and saw one hole each side in front of it and they weren't plug but when I pour water into it, it drain out to the front behind front wheel. Is there other two holes in behind the sunroof that I couldn't see. I saw two drain holes each of the trunk. Where are these two holes drain from. Please help me. Thanks.

timywong,

Can you see the two back drain holes when you open sunroof? I clean my sunroof very good. How do you know the two back drain holes not plug or disconnectd. Can you pour water into sunroof to see if it run through the drain holes or it would ruin the roof. Thanks.

you may not be able to see them but you can get water threw them to make sure they are not backed up. the tubes go through the trunk and dump out behind the rear tires. IIRC

Can't believe this leak problem is notorious and still persists on the GS, thought Lexus would have corrected the problem by now. Good Luck

LOL, I thought I was the only one experiencing this issue due to rear quarter panel being hit and possibly repaired poorly. I have attempted to keep all drains clear of debris but no luck. As a result my amp shorted out so now I have no sounds...a complete rewire is nec. w/o the amp or to just replace the amp and move it or fix the leak. My sunroof is motionless..who knows why..but no leaks from the roof of the car. If the H20 is draining to the rear I wish I could stop it. Yet I am not experiencing water in my spare compartment it has just been cofined to the passenger rear quarter panel area. I just use a wet/dry vac until I can afford/figure it out. Good luck!

Hi Guys,

My nephew and I spent so much time tried to find out where the water came from. We even took out spare tire out of the trunk. Now we knew where the water came but have no clue how it got there. The water came from the rear frame directly behind spare tire and on the the right side behind the CD changer. We could not figure it how it got out, took weather strip and check look like it is still in good shape. Here is my question "'HAVE ANY ONE REPLACED TRUNK WEATHER STRIP AND FIX THIS WATER LEAK'' I am a little skeptical about it due to how expensive part, check on line, little over $100.00.
