Finally getting a GS3

Finally getting a GS3
I was searching for a 1st gen GS300, for a long time. I ended up buying an SC300 last year, only to find a perfect GS300 for sale 4 hours later.
The SC300 is great for modifying for power, but in reality, I just want cruiser type car with 4 doors.
Currently making a deal for a 93 GS300, should pick it up this weekend.

Here she is. The mileage is 124,500, not bad!!
No batteries in my camera, so you will have to suffer with sad iphone 3G pics, with a dirty lens.
The offset on the rear rims, is wrong in so many ways!
Found this under the hood:
The dirtiest air filter ever:
Pulled out the air filter to find the dirtiest AFM screen ever. That is what is left of a flower believe it or not!
This wasn't even hooked up the whole time!
While I was cleaning the intake and AFM, decided to mock up a quick intake pipe to fit with the stock airbox. Won't use it yet, till I get better couplers. I'm going to make it a black pipe, with black couplers, stealthy.

1st drive impressions VS SC300 of the same year.
- It's slower
- It's nicer inside
- Stock stereo setup sounds pretty nice (has an alpine head unit, but still)
- Feels heavier, tank like
- Not liking the parking brake
- More caddy like, you don't feel "inspired" at all. Seems like there should be kids in the back or something.
Overall, I like it as far as it being a daily driver. The SC300 was too much like a Supra, this is a true get around car.

I'm getting rid of the SC, I can't have both. I don't really plan to modify the GS much, I'll just enjoy it.
Most of the time will be spent repairing it. Some of the initial issues include:
- Some cracked wood grain pieces
- Rear windows don't go up and down
- Front pass window is stuck
- Couple of oil leaks
- Bleeding climate control
- Gauge needle lights going out
- Front Seat doesn't go back/forth
Planned mods:
- Metal intake pipe (to delete intake resonator)
- Primary cat delete (keep the secondary) OR go with VVTI OEM tubular header (if it fits)
- Exhaust resonator delete, possibly, if it's not too loud, but keep the stock mufflers for the stock look
- Newer lexus 17 or 18 rims, OEM rims, to still appear stock
- Slight lowering, possibly convert to supra suspension
- Aristo front strut bar
- Trans cooler, in series, for the summer coming up

Why is the wheels have the wrong offset, ain't they the stock wheels?
Boy does she shines respray?

The paint is actually pretty bad, but the owner had it professionally detailed before I picked it up. That was done a month ago, and it still shines. He said it was completely dull before, because it had been sitting so long. Whatever that place was, did a nice job. I guess now I have to keep up on it. But honestly, it's not that nice in person, it's just the pictures hiding the flaws.

Looks good and nice pickup!
Watch out for those window regulators as they tend to go bad around that age/mileage. Lubing the window tracks/rubber seals to get rid of any resistance should help them last a bit longer. 3 of mine went bad and so far I have only replaced 1 since they are pretty pricey at $150/each.

More work done today.
I went to take a look at the leak at the rear of the valve covers. I wasn't ready to do the whole valve cover reseal, but decided to just tighten the rear ones I could reach for now. They were pretty loose for the most part.
I figured I'd pull spark plug number 6, since it was accessible. It came out covered in oil. Of course, the valve cover gaskets are leaking oil into the center area. I'm surprised there was no misfire yet.
It was an OEM Toyota plug. Also the wires are OEM toyota, and the sticker for the timing belt change showed 90k. I would also guess that the serpentine belt was changed at 90k, since it says Toyota on it. So this tells me that the person had done the full maintenance at the dealer (in 2005!). I'm guessing no maintenance has been done since then, except for a new radiator installed by the last owner. This is good, because now I can schedule my maintenance based on what I have found.
The tip on the plug was GONE. These are double platinum OEM plugs. The expensive ones, and they still wore away.
So a tune up is on the way. Plugs, wires, cap/rotor, valve cover gaskets and grommets. I also need to do a brake fluid flush, it is completely black. Maybe an auto trans flush too, who knows what condition that fluid is in.
I'm curious why the lexus 2jzge doesn't have grommets under the valve cover bolts. I checked MY GS300, my SC300 VVTi, and my buddies GS300, and none of them have grommets.
The guy who sold me the car, also threw in a Supra NA head gasket kit from Toyota. So it has grommets with it, and I intend to use them.
