Default Well I learned the hard way

Well I changed the oil on my car with no problem lol it was my first time props to me but i noticed my serpentine belt was cracked a little so i figured i'll change it on friday...... well driving home from school i heard a clank saw the battery light come on in dash and lost my power steering and pulled over to find out the belt has snapped

after some smoke cleared i further saw that this part i belive is the belt tensioner itself the pulley is slanted like its stuck against the metal and wont spin
this should be it it should be the main one in the middle of the engine

my real questioin is if its just the pulley i can replace for like 20 bucks or the entire part for like 140 the belt is easy enough and if theres anything else i should check

thanks in advance

my question is this: should the belt tensioner be replaced when the serpentine belt is changed?... cause i just ordered the serpentine belt myself, and if i have to change the belt tensioner also, than i will have to order that to?...
thanks for bringing this up...

No u dont have to change it everytime u change the belt usually u can just check if it is bad by spinning the pulley and if it is kinda noisey then the bearing may be going bad.

Well CL members another successful operation lol putting on the belt tensioner and the serpentine belt was not that bad even for somebody like me that has never worked on a car in his life it took me 3 hours to do everything but I did it just one word of advice for future DIY mechanics noobs for this project when putting on the serpentine belt push the belt tensioner forward like a man to get the spring retraction going I was scared I was going to break it so I sat there like a fool thinking of everything possible lol well it's just another lesson learned

Yea I bought a brand new one everything came out to $170 it's pretty simple to put on my old one the metal base was like twisted a little bit so I'm kind of glad I noticed that before I just bought the little wheel
