Default My gs is over heating!!!!!!

Need help.... My GS is over heating. I noticed that the radiator fan wasn't coming on. So i replaced the relay that controled the fans. But the car is still running hot. Does any one know where the thermostat is located on the first gen GS?

the lower radiator hose will lead you to the thermostat housing. Its two nuts to get the housing off. also buy a new rubber thermostat gasket just in case.

When putting the housing back on you can get away with toyota's thermagasket paste instead of a thermostat housing gasket if you cannot find one.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I was thinking the thermostat would be at the top. have you changed this before? And was it something a non mechanic can do?

its easy to change the thermo. I experienced overheating also when there was a slight crack at the top of the radiator (plastic) and also when my harmonic balancer was going out.

yeah, the thermostat could be stuck, or there's even a possibility your heater hose is leaking. less likely, but still totally likely.

if the hoses are really soft on your radiator, or the heater hose, get them replaced. i blew my last 2J's head gasket like that.

or your relay for your fan..... if your fan is still not spinning. check the relay, if not direct connect the fan and see if it fixed the problem. if not the thermostat then it mights be a head gasket problem...
