Default control arm #2 bushing finally done

ok so i know there is a write up on this somewhere so i wont go that much into detail but i will post a few pics of what the new bushing looks like before and after install, i am very happy with the results from this repair. it eliminated all shaking, swaying, dipping under braking, and shimmy during braking. i used no press, only a 30 year old 4 inch vice, air chisle from harbor frieght, and three sockets to push the old bushing out and new bushing in. the dropping of the sub frame was easy enough... i used a floor jack to hold it up while i took out the two rear bolts and loosened the two front bolts. i lowered it about 5-6 inches. while lowering it i unbolted the steering shaft and it fell out of its coupler right at the end of dropping the subframe. once the subframe was lowered i marked the position of the caster settings then removed the bolt and removed the two bolts on the hub then pulled the control arm out. i then used a air chisle to pry up the edge of the bushing, then pushed the rubber part of the bushing out of the sleeve, i then used a hack saw to make a cut in the sleeve so i could collapse it and it fell right out. (btw i seen this on youtube). then i sanded the rough edges and lubed the new bushing and it went right in with no fuss. (there is a taller side on the bushing whice goes to the bottom of the arm). then re-installed it and bammmm!!!! all my worries about my front end falling apart are gone, good time to replace lower ball joint too, although mines are in decent shape. hope yall can do this repair cause it is a weekend job but the results are amazing, steering response is killer and it feels like its on rails.

pic 4: both new installed
pic 5: a pic of her rear end for fun (sorry about the lp number, i forgot)

Thank you for the pics, and further motivation.. I have a set of bushings that have been sitting(I tried and got stuck halfway during install, and did not have enough time) for a while. your thread here will be bookmarked as well.

Cool, glad I can help someone. Btw the first pic shows how far down you have to drop the sub frame. I used 100% hand tools, with the exception of the $6.99 air chisel. So all you need is a socket set with 12-22mm sockets and a breaker bar for the two bolts that join the two control arms together (they are tight as crap)!!! Goes back together simple, just takes a min to get the bolt holes to line up on the arm since the new bushing is pretty firm. Good luck with it, any questions just send a pm my way.

nice thanks for that extra info...I believe I forgot that I had to disconnect the steering knuckle, and that's why I was stopped up. If for any reason I come across some surprises I'll be hitting you up.

I got them on eBay, part number is 535... Do a search for "gs300 strut rod bushing". There is some for 1st and 2nd gen gs models. 535 is the one for 1st. Gen. These are direct replacement confirmed by myself.
