Default I can't tell how much gas my car has :(

My gas gauge stopped working recently. I would fill up and it would climb to 1/4 then fall again and now it doesn't move at all. I checked all fuses and put a multi meter to the plug going to the tank and have verified that I am getting power.

The weird thing is that the gas light still comes on when its low. So now I just put $50 in and wait until the gas light comes on to tell me to refill. I really would like to know where I am at on the gauge though.

Does your needle light up at all? Mine didnt even come on when I got mine but the low gas light would turn on, what I did was get a new gas needle from the junkyard ( I mean not only the needle but the whole piece) and replaced it, and that was it

In the meantime you may want to keep an eye on how many miles you get to a tank so you can fill up before the light comes on.

Thanks for the responses guys. It works intermittently. Yesterday it would go up to 1/4 tank then fall back to E.

@Matador, I have been watching my miles but it gets annoying since my mileage varies between highway and city. I do alot of driving so its hard to estimate.

@Boxcarfan, it might be that the unit fell off the bracket. I have a custom sub box that sits over my gas tank. Maybe the vibration has knocked the sensor loose?

@m1k3yg, The needle lights up, and lately it will move but never above 1/4 tank before it just drops and stays there all day. I am thinking of replacing it, theres no 1GS' in my junkyard, maybe the one from an SC will work.
