just reset the ecu, that way, it can adjust or tell how often
that secondary throttle stay open and be able to give the car more gas...............

any mod i do to my car, i always reset the ecu.......enginewise.

here's what i did to that secondary throttle. i glued a half-cut rubber gromet and leaves it open about 1/4 inch.

i tried this mod, and have a stock intake. I did notice a difference but i don't think its power. Ithink it just substancially increases throttle response. The engine responds much quicker now when i floor it than it did before.

I can't imagine this is a big help. My 98 Mustang Cobra has a similar arrangement of long and short intake runners. Partially opening the short runners at low RPM can only hurt low end torque with no incremental benefit at the upper RPMs. Guys building race intakes for the Cobra would eliminate the butterfly valves and shorten the runners further. It might net them an extra 35-40 hp at redline, but the cost was often -15 to -20 lb/ft in the low to mid range of the RPM band.

Can you just delete the whole secondary throttle set up, valve and all?

the way everyone is talking about this mod makes it seem like the car flies off the line now. I dont think theres really any way to get more power out of the 2jz-ge unless you go turbo. or swap to a gte. but thats just my opinion. plus i havent done this mod so idk.

I think just increases throttle response a little, when I had my intake it was practically the same thing, not too big of a difference. The biggest gains your prolly gonna get on a 2jzge without a turbo is prollly around 240 at the crank.

Why not just remove the whole thing? I mean what does this deal really do for the engine?

If you are truly interested, you should probably Google search some topics on intake runner length and its impact on torque. Ideally the system will give you the good low-end off-idle torque of a long runner intake (think truck motor) and the free flowing high-rpm powerband of a short-runner intake (think drag motor).

Removing the whole thing has a significant penalty in low-to-mid range power. You know, where your car spends most of its life.

Ya for sure. I guess the engineers at Lexus/Toyota have a reason for everything..

Agreed. Every manufacturer has tried to implement some sort of system to allow optimal performance across a range of RPM bands. Honda kicked it off in 1990 with VTEC on the Acura NSX. That physically changed camshaft profiles as a function of engine RPM- albeit was a crude on/off system by today's standards. Toyota and Ford started off small, with dual runner intakes using butterfly actuators. Toyota eventually moved to a VTEC-like system with VVT-i. Ferrari developed camshaft profiles that changed axially and then shifted the camshafts fore and aft along their axis to continually tune at each engine RPM. Formula 1 cars are even a step further with solenoid-controlled valves that they can open any time they want to.

I love that sort of technology.
