hey! im a total newb when it comes to lexus motors, but i know basic stuff when it comes to cars. i heard the 1st gen gs300 have head gasket problems is that right? i was wondering it you guys can shine some light on my situation. i have this 93 gs300 2JZ-GE auto, my friend drove over to my house. we drove it the other day when it started smoking. then it died when we came to a stop.
-i checked the battery, its still good. lights dont dim or weaken when i crank.
-the alternator is still new according to my friend. replaced last spring. but i dunno why he said the guy who replaced it said it will die every 3-4 months. wtf?
-its cranking so i dont suspect starter.
-i checked distributor cap and rotor, it still looks good.
once i put the distrubutor back on, we got it started. but we pulled over at the gas station cause the temp gauge sky rocketed. we poured in some coolant, it was bone dry, yu can smell the burnt smoke. but then we couldn't start it again. it would crank, try and start but nothing. i noticed smoke and coolant leaking from where the midpipe meets the header. everytime we crank the ignition, more smoke and coolant would spit out. does that sound like a crack in the head? maybe the overheating damaged the head gasket and caused the leaking? maybe that caused the start issues? anything would help! thanks!
