Default Tranny Swaps?

I'm almost done with my NA-T build and I'm looking for my last missing link in the puzzle - what transmission to go with! I'm currently looking at 3 options.

1. I can get mine rebuilt by BoostLogic, Titan, or SP and they all say it SHOULD hold about 500whp or more. This is going to cost roughly around $1500-2000.

2. I've heard of people swapping to an Aristo tranny or swapping the guts out of a TT and putting them into our NA tranny. This will probably be one of the cheaper routes.

3. Thinking about doing a TH400/350 or 4L80 swap. The only thing sort of holding me back from a TH400 or even 350 is that they are only 3 speeds. This isn't going to be a full out race car and I like the idea of having a 4th gear.
This is were I started looking into the 4L80. I've searched around and haven't found a GS300 owner with this swap. I've seen on Supraforums a few people with one, but don't know the complexity of doing it in our cars. Also this route will probably be around the same price as getting the factory tranny rebuilt or a little more but I know this will hold almost all the power I throw at it.

To all the turbo GS300's out there, what transmission are you guys running? Also around how much hp are you at? I'm hoping for around 450-500 whp with mine and I'll be running the new AEM V2.

Let me know your idea's and thought's as I'd love to get my setup running real soon!

I'm running an R-154. I'm making about 400whp @ 15lbs on pump. No clue what the #s are @ high boost (24ish lbs) n race gas. Never dyno'd but the trans held up fine.

Yeh they say the factory trans will hold about 300-350 depending on how we drive. One of my buddies had an aristo with an upgraded valve body that held up pretty well around 450whp.

That's good to hear. Forgot to say one thing is that I'm not really looking to swap in a manual. I just love the comfort of an automatic Driving in stop-n-go traffic here in ATL SUCKS! If I ever do decided to go manual I'll probably just swap in the Supra getrag as it's been proven to hold plenty of power!

True... Any suggestions on which tranny holds up to torque more?

I'm (almost) running a V160. Stock Aristo tranny is pretty weak. If people say that it will last, they must not get on it or I have bad luck.
Know someone who ran a TH400 in his SC (L_dbl_E) and swapped it back to the R154 because the top end was so low. Putting a V160 6 speed rear would help or the Gearvendors overdrive kit, but at that rate, you're getting to 4L80E pricing
I know nothing about the BL, Titan, etc... rebuilds.
4L80E looks pretty cool, and from what I've seen on the Sound Performance kit, that looks like the way to go when you decide that 500 HP isn't enough and you go true 2JZ-GTE

Default re: trans

hey dew511
Did you do own tranny swap and did they remove your abs. The reason I asking is I lost my tranny pump lastnight on the way home. I have a r154 that i want to install over the winter or maybe even spring and I have a couple of different routes i would like to go but getting rid of the abs is not my first route. I can do all the work myself but i really dont want to fool with the braking system. I have a bulit auto installed but when they replace the parts they used the same transmission pump and lastnight it took a crap on me. Other than that the auto tranny from my gs300 with the valve body upgrade held pretty well.

Boost logic seems to have a trans rebuild that isnt really going to break the bank.
