Finally put on some Magnaflows
After much debate, I put them on today. I forget the model number but the shop did the muffler install and custom oval tips for $225. The look is much cleaner than my old circle tips. The sound is just like how others describe Magnaflows. Very quiet. You can hear a low rumble at startup...and a deep tone throughout the rpm range to about 3000...after that you hear mostly the engine.
I am very pleased and highly recommend the Magnaflows if you want better looks with unobtrusive sound.
I snapped a quick pic.

Looks good. Which tips did you use? Also, how does Magnaflow sound compare to stock muffler?
Furthemore, do you need a full catback to feel a power boost or just muffler will do?
P.S. Get some pix from under the car...

I am unsure of the brand of exhaust tips. They are stainless steel, oval and fill the stock bumper cut-outs perfectly. They also have a resonator built into them. I believe this helps to smooth out the exhaust sound.
Many will debate weather having a full cat-back vs. muffler only garners any meaningful power increase. I have muflers only. I'll try go get under-car pics once my garage dries up...raining here in SoCal.
The sound from the mufflers is subtle until you floor the pedal. At initial startup you hear a deep rumble. While the engine is cold there is a soft but deep hum from the mufflers. As the car warms up and RPM's drop to normal temp it becomes more quiet with a low deeper than stock sound.
My impressions...
(1000-3000 rpm) Exhaust is deeper than stock but not loud
(3000-4000 rpm) Sound is louder but smooth (it goes from a deep soft hum, to a semi-throaty growl)
(4000+ rpm) Engine roar is louder than mufflers 60/40 engine/muffler
*** I made a vid clip (small 1MB) using my digital camera (the best I can do right now). Vid taken from garage as I am leaving the house. I just floored it.

I love the exhaust tips, what brand are they?
As far as the mufflers go, I've always been skeptical about getting mufflers for our cars. I don't like the sound of 6 cylinder engines with an exhaust system, it reminds me of the old 240ZX--just my opinion.
How is the power since you added the exhaust?

very nice man. i love the sound it makes when you back up and tap the gas to get out the driveway. sounds good. looks like i'm going to be enjoying my exhaust i'm getting. also what size piping does everyone run. i heard that 2.5 is a little much for our car and 2.25 or 2 would be better. what are some sizes people are running

You would get good results if you use stock sized-piping because they will have mandrel bends instead of the factory crimps. The factory crimps reduce the size of the piping wherever it is bent. Look at it and you'll see the crimps that restrict the exhaust flow. Mandrel bent pipes have bends where the size of the pipe is not crimped, and therefore, flow is not restricted.
I would say that 2 1/4 is the largest you should get for this car because the exhaust, after the catalytic converters, splits up into two sets of pipes each with mufflers, which can easily handle all the I6 can give absent a power adder (turbo or supercharger).
I would stick with a mandrel bent 2 inch system because it is not too large (good for low-end torque) and would be freer-flowing (better upper-rpm power).
That is just my suggestion.
Can people who have installed after-market exhausts on the I6 please post your impressions?
