Default Powering gauge cluster outside of car.

I've tried to search, and haven't been able to find much on it. I know it's possible, but just can't quite make sense of the wiring diagram, to make it happen.

Anyone done it before that can offer some help. I've been playing with LED's in the cluster for a few weeks now, and it would make it so much easier if I could power it outside of the car. My fingers are like permanently numb from ****ing with the orange and gray connectors.

Just swapped my cluster out today and it definitely not fun in 100 degree weather. That orange wire set sucks and the grey connector clips is broken on mine, so that makes it sooo much more interesting.

I have a question, but trying to jack the thread......Do these cluster have memory built in? I swapped one from a car that was hit in the front and the airbag light is on. The other cluster doesn't show an airbag light.

Good call Nick, I've always been very careful, which leads to my thumb going numb but it gets it out gently. Will start using a screw driver, just have to be careful to not break the clips.

And as far as the memory I'm not 100%. But, I've swapped parts in and out of the two clusters I have, and both show the same warning lights everytime. Also the odometer is very easy to swap over when needed.

Need the basic rundown on swapping the odometer pls. I have a check engine light on, so when I get the problem solved then I'll clear all codes and see if it comes back. Hope not, because its annoying to have lights on.

I don't think it has a memory, you might just have to clear the airbag light that's all

swapping odometer just requires removing the screws (2 i think) and the cover, and releasing the wiring harness.

So is there no way to power the cluster, with it like sitting on the workbench?

Follow the tracks that go to the outside of the bulbs & put 12v across either side. There's no reason that wouldn't do it & it doesn't power anything else so you can't damage anything. Don't use anything with a load of power 12v made up with AA cells rather than a car battery just in case as you don't want to burn out the track..

Make sure the same bulbs are lighting that were in the car or you'll end up with them all backwards.
