i'm planning to do that this sat.
here's what you need first:
2 quart of differential oil (use 1.8 qt)
10mm long hex wrench
diff oil pump (you have to get this!) will costs $7or$8 bucks
1. open drain plug located on the diff gear (aka: as the "pumpkin") and let it drain
2. open the re-fill nut (bolt) also. when oil is all drained, put drain plug back and tighten it.
3. take your oil pump (you bought fm pepboys or autozone) and plug to the 1st quart of diff oil.
4. start re-filling where the re-fill bolt(nut) is located.
5. re-fill unitil oil comes out of re-fill bolt(nut)....that way you know when you have enough...should be close to 2 quart
6. put back re-fill nut, secure it, and you're done. drive the car, make sure no leak.

what type of oil did you use: stock oil or synthetic?
If you used stock, why didn't you use synthetic?
If you used synthetic, did you notice any type of benefits?
The procedure sounds pretty easy, so the only question is what type of oil to use.
Does anyone else have any experience with the different oil types in the differential? Please post your comments.

i would definitely use synthetic since i've got over 100,000 miles on my car. this procedure is not very easy. it will take about 2 hrs for 1st timers.......that wud be me...he.h.he..
but it will save you money for labor........which i believe around $100 or so.......
good luck!!

Anyone here got a Lexus repair manual? I looked through mine and I could not find any reference to changing the gear fluid. Just curious if it's in there.
