But I definitely didn't want to go more then 17" cuz I live and do most of my driving in New York (hopefully you get the idea). That's why I am affraid to lower my car or to put on a body kit. The roads here suck. My friend got a 2001 IS300 with 17" rims and low profile tires, and he bent both of his front rims within first two weeks (he sometimes drives like a suicidal maniac, other times just aggressively).

I don't know if you notice, but the front tires look pretty flush with the fenders, but the rears could be pushed out 15-25mm, I still haven't decided which.
thats how all gs's are. the front are more flush with the car than the back. same with the 2nd gen.

225 on 7inch rim. wow your kinda pushing it there. i have 7.5 inch stock rims and i run 225 and the guy at the tire store said 215 are stock and i should get those instead. but i told him i wanted my 225.

lowering your car and puttin on body kits shouldn't affect your rims getting bent. the only thing that will effect it is the 2nd number on your tire size which is 50. if you go lower the tires will be lower profile causing easier bent rims.

I am not worried about bending rims. I am more worried about scraped body parts, or, even worse, shattered fiberglass. There are potholes here like you wouldn't believe. Or what they'll do a lot of times is repave the street and not raise the manhole cover to the new road level, leaving a 4-5" dip in the middle of the road.

Yeah, I've noticed that just about about everyone in Cali rides on lowered 19-20" rims with body kits. Haven't seen much of that here. Saw some poor guy on his lowered ricer Honda trying to drive onto a gas station at 0.5 miles per hour. After that I decided that lowered kitted car is not for me. At least not until I move somewhere where the local gov't takes care of the roads.

Peace. I am off to watch Alias.

3. Out of curiosity, do you guys think my car should be lowered and by how much?

Sorry Sovero1, I don't have any pics of my car with the spacers on. Maybe in a few weeks when I get a digital camera. Jmai22, I don't have the 25mm anymore. As far as lowering, the stock shocks/struts can handle up to 1.5 inch drop. Any lower and you will have to get new shocks/struts. Performance ones are NOT cheap. My TRD cost me $700. I should have spent a few more bucks and gotten the TEIN coil-overs.

**Edit out your license plate numbers on your pix. **

Nice ride. Which exhaust tips are you using? And what happened to you driver side window molding? When I bought my car it looked like that. Those things are mad expensive to replace.

P.S. Are you using any spacers now? It doesn't look like it.

fixed plates (the car is registered an hour away from where i live any at a PO box no less ) car is lowered with espilar springs (1.75 inch drop). No tire wear problems. Tips are borla. Using 5mm spacers in front 15mm in back (I think I may move the 15mm up front and get a set of 20mm for the backs). I had 25 out back at first but didn't want to deal with rolling the fenders. Sorry, Jmai22, I already have a stock set of rims laying around. Just want something new for my ride. Sovero1, i bought the car like that (moulding) I tried to get it fixed but the body shop said 350 just for parts. can I just bend it back? or does it need to be replaced? If it needs to be replaced, anybody know of a place to get it for cheap? Thanks for the comments all.

Minh

Minh:

From what I understand (both Lexus and an independent body shop said this), it'll never return to its original shape. I had the same thing, and I ended up replacing the molding. The part itself costs around $400 list from dealer in NYC. In NYC, mechanics/body shops get 15% discount + no tax if paying by cash. I am not sure how it is where you live.

About the spacers... So with 25mm in the back there will be definite fender rolling? And with 20mm there won't be? When you swap the spacers, please post pics.

Sovero1, Thanks for the info. The reason I would go 20 in back is because I think the ride would look better with 15 in front 20 in back instead of 15 in front 25 in back. The reason for the 15 in front is that I already have them. If I started over from scratch, I'd do 20 in front 25 in back. Now if you don't have rims yet and you are planning on getting some. Forget about the spacers and just get the right offset. As far as rubbing, if you're lower than 1.5 inches I'm pretty sure you'll have to roll the fenders no matter if you go 20 or 25. Hope all that makes sense.
