almost every morning now i get this whining or squeeling like noise for the first 5 minutes or so the car is on. its just sounds nasty. its coming from the engine area. can't exactly tell where its coming from though. it goes away after 5 minutes. through out the rest of the day it will not come back. but the next morining it wouldhappen again. could this be due to the cold weather. its gets in the 55ish here at night.

I couldn't tell what was causing the noise until the mechanic inspected the car and found the bad waterpump. Try taking off the belt and spin the waterpump to see if it grinds or is sticking.

ya, look at the belt too. It is worn if it is cracking or is glazed (shiney and smooth). The belt should be textured so that it grabs the pullies without slipping. If it slips, it squeels.

Since the GS only runs one belt the belt will be the last on my list of culprits.. but inspect the belt for wear... try to move it to check tension.. if loose the drive belt tensioner is bad.
The bearings are bad in one of your pulleys that is attached to either your powersteering pump....waterpump... alternator.. or drivebelt tensioner. When the bearings go bad the problem amplifies in cold weather but goes away when car warms up. Have it checked.
My method is to take a tube like about 1-2 foot piece of hosepipe put one end to your ear the other to the different parts i listed above.. you will then notice which area is louder, thus isolating the problem.
Don't put this off too long either if the bearings are bad in one of these components and it breaks the drive belt will break and/or jump off and you will be stuck on the side of the road!!!!
