93 gs300 traction problem

did that
Kasper: I did that, but it came back on after a few days. Hopefully yours won't come back on. I cancelled my appointment to have it checked because I'm busy with tests/finals. We are on a quarter system at Rose-Hulman so that is why we have finals. It really sucks without TRAC control during this severe snow fall we've had.

If it comes back... check your brake pads. I've noticed the traction control light coming on during times when the pads are low. But it would go back out. Or it would go back out when i cut the car off then restarted.

yeah you guys are right it did come back on, so ill get diagnostics done, i just changed front brakes not too long ago, cuz was geting vibration when braking so i had front pads resurfaced, now ill ust do all 4. if changing brakes wont help then ill get diagnostic done. thanks guys

hey oldskoolgs try disconnectin the battery for about 15-20 mins, to reset the ecu, it might fix the problem. i did that couple times but it keeps comnig back on, the tracoff light, trac light, and check engine light, the trac off and check engline light come up right away and stay on when i first turn the car on, then the trac light comes up later on while driving, i was on ebay and i found a trac ecu for 25 bucks, i still havent changed it, but ill let you know if it worked or not.

Listen Guys. You are going about this all wrong. The traction control is automatically shut off when there is an engine electrical problem. The "TRAC OFF" light won't always come on with the "CHECK ENGINE" light if the problem is minor, but it will when the ECU signals are completely out of whack. The ECU is responsible for shutting off the traction control since it is directly linked to the engine intake air flow. Normally, the culprit in this situation is a clogged EGR system. This is a very common problem with these cars when they get a few miles on them. Any good Lexus dealership that knows their Lexus cars will tell you this. Carbon builds up in the intake and EGR pipes and lines and this in turn throws the oxygen sensors off. There is also a EGR temperature sensor in the EGR valve itself that will not read correctly when the system is clogged. You must also replace the oxygen sensors every 100k miles if you want your car's emission system to continue to function correctly. Don't focus on the "TRAC OFF" light. This is only a residual effect of the "Check Engine" light. The real problem lies in the engine's electrical system. Trust me. You will be glad you did. Go buy a cheap Toyota code scanner from Autozone and get the engine's stored trouble codes. Or you can find a code website that explains the codes and where to put a jumper wire in the diagnostic port. Your codes can be retrieved from a flashing "Check Engine" light after the jumper wire is in place and the key is turned to the "on" position. I am 99% sure you will get a code 71 (EGR system malfunction) or a oxygen sensor code or similar. Now, here's the terrible part.... If this does turn out to be your problem, you must remove the EGR valve and piping, and the intake manifold. All must be cleaned thoroughly and all ports big and small must be clear of obstruction. There is a pipe in the center of the intake that you can see after you remove the throttle body. It has a small hole in the center of it on the bottom side. This hole must be clear because this is where the exhaust gas enters the intake stream. Also, there is a port on the EGR valve that has a metal elbow in it. This elbow is held in with a Phillips head screw. This port also clogs easily over time. Check all other ports on the intake and EGR before reinstalling. If you must, soak them in parts cleaner overnight and wash them well with a pressure washer or carry them to a car wash to blow them out. Go ahead and replace your spark plugs while you have it torn down because this is the only way to get to them. You don't want to have to do this again. There is also a little filter element in the plastic modulator valve on top of the EGR valve. Remove the cap and make sure this little element is not clogged.
In my experience, this will fix the problem. Its simply just carbon buildup. Age is the culprit here. If this doesn't fix the problem right away, you will need to replace the key sensors in this system.....the oxygen sensors and the EGR temperature sensor. I suggest Park Place Lexus for any parts.

Trust me Guys, you are not alone. Many, many people have this same problem. Its just a common drawback to these cars. But, look at it this way, get it fixed an you'll be good for another 100k miles or 10 years, whichever comes first. Small price to pay for such a great car. Please email me with any questions and I'll be happy to help. I hate to see you guys spend money on things that won't solve your problem.

actually the problem isnt gone tottally... my back brakes are gone tottaly im waiting for new rotors and pads to come in and now sometimes my trac light comes on, but it only seems to come on when i press the brakes hard.. will it solve the problem once i change the rotors and pads? once again it doesnt happen all thge time... the check engine light and trac off light dont come on anymore, or at least not yet lol.

If you are refering to the flashing "TRAC" light that comes on when the traction control is activated, I think you will be ok. The traction control system uses a combination of braking and controlling engine aspiration. If you are having rear brake problems, that effects the traction control tremendously. After all, the rear brakes are a key system for the TC. Let me know what you find after you change your pads and rotors. It seems to me that when engine rpms are up while you are traveling at cruising speeds, if you jam on the brakes and the rear brakes aren't working that well, I would think that the rear wheels would tend to "push" the car instead of helping it slow down. This should definitely activate the TC system and cause the "TRAC" light to flash. Keep me posted. I would like to see you get your problem totally solved. This will also help the many other people with similar problems. Later.

also is anybosy using a stop light bulb from pepboys or anything? the warning light is on even though all of my stop lights work? the light only comes on after i start the car and press on the brake. Or would i have to buy a bulb from lexus in order for the light to go off?
thanks for any info/advice.
