Thanks for this post. It helped me swap a J3 Aristo A340E into a 96. Although, there are some differences with the A350E that I ran into.

Is there a reason why the whole extension housing and speedometer driven gear can't be swapped over so both speed sensors can be used? I have yet to find a picture of the Aristo extension housing removed in order to compare. I didn't remove it when I had both transmissions out since it seems no one has documented swapping or even an attempt to do so.

IDK if they can be swapped between a340 and a345 or not. Never had an a345 to match to. if it is a 4 speed auto, you probably can, but I dont know for sure.

I'm in the process of removing my Aristo TT trans. If you need pics, be specific and let me know. I don't know what an extension housing is so you'll have to use Barney terms.

Thanks. It's the housing for the tailshaft. Here is what the a350e looks like. I verified that the housing length is the same. Just need to know if the rotor can be installed.

So you've got 4 pulses per 360 degree rotation of the driveshaft. Rather than pulling out the extension housing, I imagine I could remove the speedometer reluctor and just observe the points while rotating the shaft. Is that what you're looking for or just the basic bolt pattern of that extension housing

They should have the same bolt pattern. I would like to use both vehicle speed sensors if possible (gear and electronic). I was able to run a Dakota Digital speedometer conversion box to input the signal from the 2-wire sensor and output to the dash in order to pass smog. Supposedly the Aristo uses a 12 tooth trigger wheel but I had to divide the signal way more than 1/3. Their unit doesn't allow the same pulse rate output on both sensors so I have to choose one. It shifts fine because it uses the speedometer signal as a backup but throws a CEL for the other sensor which is a minor annoyance.

Yeah I'm not sure I understand this 100%. I've seen that there are two speed sensors on the transmission and they supposedly go to different systems. I've also heard that the Aristo dashboard speedometer is actually fed a signal from the ECU. So the ECU takes a signal from the transmission speed sensor, processes it and outputs a different signal to the speedometer. Then the ABS ECU and/or TRC ECU get another speed signal from the transmission plus a signal from the ECU. Those are in addition to the wheel speed sensors of course. That's majorly confusing for me. I would probably need an actual infographic system map to understand it.

Is this the GTE VVTi Trans you are using for the swap?

Yes. I used the 30-40LS from the Aristo with VVTI.

As far as the speed sensors; the 2-wire electronic goes directly to the ECU. The 3-wire signal output goes to the dash and then routes the signal to the ECU. I don't believe the shift points are calculated from the ABS wheel speed sensors.

The extension housing is the same for all 1st Gen (A341E and A350E). If it is swappable along with the internals, this could potentially fix the speed signal issue for both.

Any chance of getting those pics? I still can't find anyone that has any. Thanks.

Yeah its sitting on the floor of my garage. You need pictures of the tailshaft extension housing?

I'm looking for pictures of what the output shaft area looks like with it removed. Similar to what I posted above. Thanks.

A couple days ago my 96 GS300 that has the A340E with A350E electronics broke down. It stopped going in all forward gears. This brought me back full circle because it was the original issue with the car when I bought it.

It never ran perfect after the swap but I was able to smog it at least. Now I have more options but I may install another because I can get one for $100.
