I first fell in love with the 1st generation when I was a teenager, I could see something in them that they had alot of potential and class, I could have purchased a 98 at the time I purchased it but when I seen mine I fell in love and am glad with my decision(sometimes) no real problems. I bought it will 58,000 miles and am close to 80,000 right now. Man some of you guys got a lot of miles congrats on your success of not many problems

Well i purchase a motor from a salvage yard which specialized in Lexus. because i wanted a motor with low miles i paid more. $1700 for a motor out a 94 with 44,000 miles. If i wanted something with around 70K $1500 or 100K and above $1200. I felt the lower miles was worth the extra money. Paid 500 for the install (included them removing the old and installing the new) which they did at the salvage yard. And i got them to put a new power-steering pump on too cuz mine was whining/squeaking in cold weather $100 and a couple of other misc. stuff related to the motor added up to be around $2500. However, when you purchase a motor/engine like i did you are paying for the block only, stuff like the alternator, waterpump, etc. is all taken from your engine and put on the new one. I would have never bought another engine unless mine died, i have heard of people getting 300K-400K on these and other lexus models. I am not the only one on this board with +200K, i think people are embarrased to say stuff like that or something. WTF... i started a thread like this when i first joined Club Lexus and got "NO RESPONSES", I personally don't care, i love this body style so i keep it, clear title and all, alone with my 2001 Lexus IS which i bought in 2001, paid cash for it.
Just keep the oil changed, replace the timing belt when its needed, and don't let it run hot, you'll make it to 200K too if you keep it that long

007- you make a great point! I think folks are embarrassed about mileage, but when you driving a car that is 6 yrs old at best (97), then high mileage is expected. 10 yrs at 12-15k a year is 120-150k!! You are right, I maintain the car well and go where I want! The only diff is, I only step on it when I'm on the highway. Around town, for the most part, I drive like your grandpa!!

If you're talking about your front bumper I bet mine's worse. Main reason I want a bodykit is because it looks so bad! It looks like a small animal was chewing on it or something. Previous owner had some probs parking + a surbaban backed into it and drove away. Somebody put a fresh scratch in it last month and I just laughed at how "lucky" I was that it was already all jacked up.
This moisture thing in the trunk is a real problem!!! Good so see so many 1st gens with high miles and running smoothly.

Oh yeah, I know all about that airdamn rash! My bumper is fine, but the bottom portion of my airdamn has some rash. I live in Mass, but I just moved here a year ago, so I'm always going to New York, which is a 180 trip one way. I guess the lowered front end is more susceptible to rocks and debris

My ride.
Here's what my ride is like:
1994 GS300 - Nakamichi, "butt warmers", Traction Control, 12Disk CD-changer, the whole nine.
156,000 miles - had a cupholder issue, like everyone else, fixed it (bought a whole new freakin'
armrest console); some moisture under the trunk mat, when it rains really heavy; driver door frame
makes a little noise; hood struts are going bit by bit; and I need to cut my rotors right now.
DGOT20s:
"Damn Piano,
52K on a 93????!!!!!
Thats only 5k per year, you must only back up, and go forward in your driveway!! Do you have any pics?"
Let me tell you, you are a funny a*s dude. LOL Keep it up, bro.
DIMIZE1:
"SOME A*S SCRAPED MY BUMBER AND THATS IT.." I have the same problem. I always park in the
farthest corners of the parking lots, but some a*swipes still manage to scratch my ride. I'll have to repaint
it soon, being it's summer and all.

nextlevel, I sent you a PM.
Everyone else- be honest, does anyone else that has more than 90k (like I now do) keep their odometer on the "trip" setting?? My lil brother got in the car and noticed it the other day, he was like, "your mileage must be getting high, because you got your odo on trip!!"

Yeah, I do that, I ain't gonna lie. I keep my odometer on the trip setting, but I mostly do it
because it's more convinient to keep track of my gas mileage.
