On my hunt for an upgraded alternator I found this gem:

Apparently, these alternators are just not capable of the numbers Eagle claims.

I read all 27 pages of that thread before I bought my alternator. Yeah I know there were good things and bad thing but I was willing to take a chance. The one thing I did notice from that thread was besides the DOA alternators the units that failed seem to be on car that were making 500 or 600 hp which could be harmful to the life span of the alternators....maybe..... I don't know. Mine is currently functioning and I am happy with it.

So what wires and connectors did you end up going with? I just have 2 gauge 19 strand OFC wire that I used for my amplifier install and I was going to crimp on a 2 gauge copper battery terminal lug with a 3/8 hole and of course shrink wrap it. On the battery end, I have one of those car audio battery terminals with the screw down allen head locks for the cables. I plan on leaving the stock alternator wire installed too because it's in another loom and it'd be too much work to disconnect it. I'm just wondering if I should go with 110 strand OFC wire instead of 19 strand because at that size, the wire is pretty stiff. The alternator is attached to the engine of course so it vibrates and moves.

It all depends on the customer. Those guys with 500-600 HP also spent $3,000 on their turbo and $3,000 on their ECU's. They are a bit more discerning and picky than most.
How difficult would this be to do? I've seen the alternator rebuild kits. It's just brushes and bearings.

Hello,
I have a Lexus is 200, running on LPG and it is using still after 20 years the stock alternator 90amps.
Unfortunately, I have changed 6 batteries in almost 11 years.
I have reasons to believe that this stock alternator is not sufficient to recharge the battery and was wondering if changing it with 250 amps one will be a problem?
If someone has a little piece of advice please feel free to add a response.
Many thanks
Giulio
