After a horrible dealer service experience the other week (previous message thread) and getting Lexus and the dealer's customer service involved, the dealer went out of their way to remedy the situation. The dealer goodwilled the lower ball joints, and the customer service manager took care of me as the service writer for the service work. I still spent $900 for the motor mounts and rear brake pads, but at least when it was all said and done I had straight answers. I guess there's a reason Lexus takes customer service so seriously
I will probably keep taking my car to the same dealer because it's convenient (and now I have found a backup dealer that sounds pretty knowledgeable), but don't plan to deal with the original service writer again

indypwr, they did it for free because they couldn't give him a straight answer on the recall on the ball joints. That is good service! However I think they may have overcharged for doing the engine mounts but he still got a fair deal overall.

Both parts and labor covered under warranty. I think the dealer service manager warrantied under "good will" -- good service nevertheless and turned around what could have easily been a lost customer
I had received the recall statement in 1995 and had the work done then. The driver's side lower ball joint subsequently wore out. I'm sure at the time they did the recall work 8 years ago they said the ball joints shouldn't wear, but all the service departments make their $$ on wear items and routine maintenance items
Even if overcharged on motor mounts, it always amazes me how cheap the maintenance on these cars are compared to BMW, Mercedes and especially Porsche
