Default Window Trouble

Guys I have a problem. I have been having trouble rolling down my window for some time, but today the **** hit the fan, I rolled it down to see it was working and it never rolled back up. What sucks more is that with my warranty the power window switch is covered, but not the motor. I cannot even pull the window up to keep it closed. Also, when I hit the switch it makes a clicking noise, so I don't think it's the switch. Does anybody know how much this is going to cost me? Thanks guys.

Awaiting Help,

Kareem

I just want to clarify, you hear the motor running and a click sound, but the window does not go up. Okay, I had this same problem too. The problem is that the motor is not hooked up to the window, that's why you hear the motor but the window does not go up. The clicking sound is coming from a piece of plastic that holds the window to a cable that the motor moves up and down. The plastic is broken, that's why when the cable moves it tries to catch onto the window but it doesn't.

To fix this, you have to take off the door panel and remove the cable assembly. The cable assembly consists of a 1 1/2 ft long metal track and it has the cable and the motor attached to it. You have to remove the motor from the metal track and get a new one from the dealer. I forgot how much it cost because I did this 2 years ago. Then just install the motor on the new track and then install the track. Make sure the window works properly before putting the door panels back on because it is easy to forget something.

Wow Eric, that is detailed and very nice help. I really do appreciate it. However, I don't really have the resources, or the time to do it myself, so it looks like I may be paying out the ***. This really sucks, but again, thanks for the help.

Best Regards,

Kareem

Well, today I got sick of the road noise, so I took the car to the shop. At first they wanted to charge me like $600, $500 for the motor, and $100 for labor. Then, I asked them to block the window up, and he called me back and quoted me like $250. Now I'm wondering why the sudden price drop, is this guy cool, or sneaky, hmmm?

Turned out they just had to change the power window regulator. $250 bucks, not too bad, I guess.

Glad you didn't have to pay $500 for the motor. Next time you can always go to a junkyard for the parts and bring them in. Save a lot of $$$$ that way. You could probably get 10 window motors for that price at a junkyard (not that you would want to).
