My first Lexus -vibration while driving
Hey guys just bought a 1994 lexus gs300, only has 89,000 miles, very low miles for a lexus. Anyways when I take it on the freeway and go 80mph+ the whole car vibrates, when buying the car I had my mechanic look over it and he told me only thing wrong is the alternator, but I do not think this is a alternator problem. I dont think my wheels need balancing, because when you need wheels balanced your steering wheel shakes, not the whole car. It has OKAY goodyear tires and the car is in great shape, if anyone knows whats make this vibration, please help!!!

By any chance, did you buy this from Anthony/Promax?
You should have taken the car for a spin on the streets and freeway when you had your mechanic with you when purchasing. Some things you cant diagnose while you let the car sit there and let the engine run. Anyway, that shake can be caused by a lot of things. Bad tire balance, bad alignment, bad wheel bearings, bad bushings, etc. Check everything one by one and narrow the possibilities down.

The reason I couldnt take the car for a test ride is because I bought it from a carmax dealer only auction, I got a HUGE emloyee discount, and was only allowed to show it to a mechanic, I do have a 7 day return. My mechanic tells me I need new tires, new spark plugs, new spark plug wires, and I bought a new distributor rotor and cap. It also need a new valve cover gasket. I will most likely end up keeping the car because there isnt anything major wrong. Also, do you have any suggestions for tires, I really dont want to spend more than $300. Thanks you

if it were my money, id get new tires from Costco. With installation, it comes out cheaper than tire rack. and considering you probably have stock 16s all said and done +/- $500. Or you can try eBay for used ones. As far as the vibration, you'd have to jack to the car up and inspect the underside. Maybe driveshaft/diff although makes me wonder at 89k can't be anything too serious. the parts your mechanic mentioned need replacing are easy to DIY. if you don't mind me asking how much did you pay your GS? that's a rare find with low miles.. take good care of it..
