93 gs issues
Hey guys I have a 93 gs3 that's having popping issues from the passenger side of the car . here's a little back story on the car I got the car from the second owner who babied the car he did allot of work on the he had 20in rims ,flipout head unit custom stereo custom interior an a low mileage ge motor put in about 7 yrs ago he owned the car for 15 yrs he stopped working on the car when his younger brother passed so he parked it in the garage and left it there for 6yrs until last yr when he posted the car on offerup for a yr an no one was interest so he dropped the price by half (1500) an that's when I acquired the car. Now back to the issues at hand the car idles really low on start up an dies once I give it gas but won't die the second time I start it up, there's a ticking noise from exhaust manifold , the car has no power until it hits 3k then shoots off like a rocket then its back to no power the car backfires an smells like unburnt gas the cat glows after 10 mins of the car running there's a check engine light for cat 02 sensor which is brand new Ive changed plugs, plug wires ,cap and rotor, I've unplugged each injector individually to make sure that it's not a. Clogged or failing injector ive ran octane booster an 2different injector cleaners in a half tank of 91 I've check for intake leaks an found a crack In the intake piping which I've replaced with a new intake I haven't checked time since I don't have a timing light Im pretty stumped on what to do next any help is much appreciated I've also included a few pictures of the car I have a video of the car running on fb that I can't attack

Popping issues makes me think its a ball joint failing, but the cat glowing and problems running sounds like its not firing on all 6 and your getting raw fuel dumped into the exhaust. The ticking could be something loose or needing a valve adjustment/lack of oil.
Keep checking for vacuum leaks, perhaps spray some starting fluid to see if you get a high idle anywhere from it. Also, how old is the gas in the car? Might even have a clogged fuel filter.

The car had a quarter tank of gas that was 6months old but I flushed that out and put the half tank of 91 with the octane booster an fuel system cleaner an injector cleaner the popping noise I just found out was the rim wasn't seated all the way on the Hub apparently the lug nuts on it are Acorn lug nuts which were grabbing any threads since it couldn't go in the factory rim lug holes

Could an injector be stuck open dumping too much fuel? Especially with it sitting for a long time. I think the idle issue could be from a dirty IACV (idle air control valve) or throttle body. Lack of power I'm not sure..
Im not sure where you could upload a video, i think imgur might allow videos?

I have IAC cleaner but it says don't use on Lexus IAC which is kinda weird do we have to use a special cleaner or something? I'm gonna pull the injectors this weekend an have them flow tested an cleaned I also have a n/a supra longtube header coming in to replace the header &cat which is 250 at my parts store which is a rip off . I'm also thinking about replacing the intake manifold with a tt supra one or a aftermarket one I personal hate the cross over intake it requires to much work to replace the plugs

I would use a toyota throttle plate cleaner like https://parts.toyota.com/p/Toyota-Th...02891TP00.html
And the intake manifold patterns are different between non turbo and turbo heads, so you would have to find an aftermarket front facing 2jz-ge manifold or have one custom made. Really not worth all the trouble unless you're going standalone with a turbo kit.

OK so I replaced the fuel filter which helped with cold start but now the backfiring is getting worse so is the sluggishness until I hit 4k and it shoots off like a rocket . is the backfiring an sluggishness happening because off my cat being clogged or could it be timing

Definitely check timing, and if your timing is correct perhaps change your cap and rotor. If those first two don't fix it perhaps replace your fuel pump or bypass your fuel pump ecu ( or both at the same time )

Hey guys thanks for all the help but do to working so much i didn't have time to work on the car so I end up taking the car to a mechanic who specialized in jdm cars he ended up finding out that the autozone sparkplug wires ,an a crack in the couplers were the cause of the sluggishness an the back firing Hopefully this helps someone else
