Im just curious, do any of you guys ever hear any noises when you reverse your car. Its a painful sound, im sure its just the gears switching. Its just something i would not expect from a 50k(430) car. Do u guys have any idea what it may be..and it sometimes happens when i come to a stop, as in parking my car..any advice..or should i just let it go?? thanks...

I have the same thing... I assumed it was normal considering all the Japanese cars I've owned have done the same thing (Mazda, Toyota, Honda), but it kind of annoys me, too, especially coming from a 6 year run with German cars. Any thoughts, guys?

A tapping or thunking noise the FIRST time you apply the brakes after going from forward to reverse or the other way around is normal.....that is the result of the floating brake calipers hitting their stops after a directional wheel rotation change. This is normal on almost any Toyota or Lexus product. If you are sure that the noise in inside the transmission and not brake-related, it is possible that the shift-shock control is not working. That momentarily engages high gear for a split-second as you shift at a standstill into either first or reverse, and prevents the harder and noisier direct shift from neutral into first (or reverse). It is a feature some luxury-cars have. If this is not the case with your car, then maybe you need some other work....see a qualified technician.
