Default DONE!!! Non - HID to OEM HID conversion

O.k So I finally got it done. I had a 99 GS300 that did not have HID's from the factory and everyone told me it was not possible to buy OEM HID's and wire it to a car that did not originally have HID's. It was so easy and simple, I couldnt believe it was that easy. I bought 2 OEM xenon lights from ebay at about 80 bucks a piece and was very dissapointed to find out it was not plug and play. After talking it over with a couple of friends, they told me to just cut the the harness off for my 9006 bulb and wire that directly to the ballast. It was that easy and it works perfect. Basically i got OEM HID's for about 160 bucks....

Great job.

A few questions for you. You said "xenon". I believe that is a BMW term. Did you buy BMW OEM bulb & ballast or did you just mean OEM Lexus? I assume that there is still no self-leveling motor involved. When I saw the title, I thought that you installed the entire Lexus HID system (electronics, motor, ...) into your car. If that is the case, then Wow!!!! If not, you still got a great deal on HIDs.

Yes I do have some pics but ill have to wait till I get home to post them..... I bought the whole headlight assembly with the housing, bulb and ballast of a Lexus GS, so basically i just unbolted my headlights and bolted the other one right in. I didnt want to bother with the leveling mechanism b/c that had about 16 different wires I didnt want to mess with.

So it's not really OEM then, right?

For $160.00 you got two headlight assemblies complete with ballasts and relays and real HID bulbs??????

Something does not sound right here even if the assemblies and bulbs are used.

Brand new HID kit will run you $500.00 approximate. Headlight assemblies brand new are over $1000.00 apiece. So you're saying that you got product worth over $2500.00 new for $160.00 used?

They're up for on ebay all the time. Its the whole headlight assembly with ballast and bulb. They usually sell for about 100 a side with everything.

Also for the OEM questions, The headlights are OEM Lexus, i just didnt wire up the leveling mechanism b/c I did not know how too.

How is it not OEM? He just not using the leveling mechanism but he is using the d2 bulbs!! Non OEM would be if he was using a HID conversion kit!!

Hameed they are on EBAY sometimes complete for that price. What I always wanted to know is if these are ones people have changed due to moisture problems ......

Yes, that sounds very likely - i.e. defective headlight assemblies. I just checked ebay and I saw a set there for $100.00.

If you cut the harness off of your stock 9006 connector and wired it up to the ballast on the headlight you might burn out your dash lights or headlights in your car. The stock hid has relays built into the circiut for the HIDs your halogens didnt. Thats why on retros they always have relays. I would get yourself 2 relays and wire them into the connection before something happens.

The ones on Ebay are most likely stolen from another GS, Along with the
Airbags they always have Good deal but now I know why my insurance is $150 more a year because of HIDs as opposed to regular headlights

Your something?? Pretty descriptive
Actually, you won't burn out anything, DevilDog told me how to strip wire the lights since the adapters don't coincideand I haven't had a single problem in about a year. It is impossible to install the auto-leveling as that is done directly from the factory, and the sensors are built in front and rear, ask a dealer to install this and they'll laugh at you.
