ARE YOU ORDERING A NEW 2004 GS???2
Hello,
To my knowledge, the Navigation system has always been an option. It is possible to get the Mark Levinson sound system without the navigation. So many of the 2001-2003 GS 430's have the navigation system, it looks like they come together, but actually, I saw one 2001 and two 2002 models without the nav.
What you were looking at was probably the "package" on the Lexus website. If you drop lower down the page, the items are listed separately. As to which is the cheapest way, I would say if you want all the options in the package, it would be the best way to go.
However, I do know that I were looking for a preowned Gs 2001-2003, I would expect to see the Navigation system there, whether I used it or not.

THE NEW 2004 WILLTAKE A DRAMATC HIT WHRN THE NEW 2005 COMES OUT
I hate to say it, but the new 2004 GS will take a BIG hit in depreciation when the 2005 GS comes out. That car is expected to have all new sheetmetal and drivetrain changes. Unless you HAVE to have a new 2004 GS, a nearly new pre-owned GS makes more financial sense. Right now, a 2003 preowned costs almost as much a a new 2004, but that will really change when the new car comes out........UNLESS the new 2005 is a DOG!!!! I doubt that Lexus would do that.
This new 2005 GS is highly hyped, and is expected to be quite different from the current bodystyle. I would save a few bucks and get either a preowned 2003 or 2004 after someof that depreciation falls off.

Based on my Lexus shopping experience, it might not be possible to get all of the options you want without taking some options that you don't want or need. I recently purchased my GS new from a dealer and, while shopping around, found that some options were impossible to order without ordering other options.
Case in point: It was not possible to add HID headlamps to a GS300 without ordering the NAV/LEV pakage. Why on Earth is this, you ask? The answer is that the GS300 without NAV/LEV has a different wiring harness that prevents the HID lamps from being a drop-in option.
I also found that Lexus really doesn't care about building "one-off" type vehicles, so you may find that gettiong NAV without LEV or LEV without NAV is literally impossible. Salespeople have told me that you can "request" a vehicle with and without all of the various options, but the wait is on the order of months and the factory can ultimately refuse to build the vehicle you've requested.

i dont hate, i just dont need it. I mean for the extra $5k the way they are showing in on the web page that would be a nice set of wheels or a good chunk out of a blower.
We also dont travel that much, and when we do we take the SUV.
