Arrow Loud Ticking Sound after full Crancshaft Seal Replacement

I am certain there are many threads on this, however I have failed to find one that answers my issue.

I just bought this car about a month ago. It was leaking everywhere and I till drove it for about a week before taking the engine out and replacing all seals and gaskets.

I changed both front and rear crankshaft seals, Valve Stem Seals, Water Pump, timing, and all Gaskets I could think of (Except the head as I decided to leave on and not deal with any machine shop). I thought of Changing bearings as I was already there, but opted to leave them alone as that could be a job for the future. Lastly, I even left the Oil pump, as it was working and I thought of it in the very end. Being that I am in Puerto Rico, things take a lot longer to be shipped and I did not want to delay any further.

Anywho, As soon as I finished, the car sounded like a Diesel. I checked the timing, removed head covers and so on to confirm, ultimately, it sounds dry on the head. The last couple days, I got the No oil light with the little wave, but my oil it topped off. I was going to check the oil pressure sensor tomorrow, but meanwhile, I wanted to know if anyone has a similar issue with their Second Gen GS's after performing a full gasket replacement. I would have to have to get in there again and change the oil pump, or Crank Sensors. Anywho, can someone please advise if there are any similar issues I can trouble shoot from?

Below is a link to a video to hear it. The car sounds like a loud tap or knock, but all on the top part, not the block. No noticeable performance issues other than small misfires when in stop. Any help will due. Will keep you posted on the updates as well. Thanks!

Hard to say but sounds like there is no oil in the engine, or no oil pressure. Please verify oil pressure don't run the engine otherwise. The actual noise sounds like valve train to me did you mix up shims?

I did check the oil and it was full. As for the shims, I didn't put them on myself. Do you have a guide on how to measure the clearances?

Super easy, need feeler gauge set put the cam lobe 180 degrees opposite the shim/bucket and check. On the 1UZ specs are as follows your engine probably the same.
Intake 0.006–0.010 in.
Exhaust 0.010–0.014 in.

Feeler will go in easily then next thicker will go in hard or not at all that's how you know you've found the clearance. Your engine does kinda sound like someone mixed up the shims/buckets.

Could that cause any damage?

No, well not for a very long time. But you need to verify oil pressure if you don't have it then you'll destroy the engine and valve clearances won't matter.

Did you remove the oil pan at all? Maybe the oil pickup was left out? damaged seal? blockage of some kind? It's not likely that the oil pump suddenly doesn't work. It's got to be related to the work you performed. Seems like an oil starvation issue.

Yes, everything was removed and cleaned. I am certain the oil pickup was placed correctly. I have been driving the car for over a month and the oil light just came on, but then goes off for a while, then back on. I am going to change the Pressure sensor today and see if it solves that issue at least.

Just found a video explaining the Valve clearance (
), hopping to get to that this week at least.

These are all good pointers peeps, appreciate you all. Will keep you posted.

Ask whoever assembled your head if they installed your shim in the EXACT order they removed them from or did they just randomly put shims back. It's important that they put them back in the exact order.

When you removed the cams did you install a service bolt to keep the preloaded scissor gears in alignment?

More info HERE

Sir, that engine needs to be quiet. Either oil isn't getting up there or bad timing. Also check the plugs, might be a misfire.

Look guy.. I don't know how drunk you were when you made/responded to the last threads you did. But you have spouted off absolute nonsense and wrong information.

Where do you get misfires from the noise he explained? And what does "checking plugs" do? Nonsense.
To the guy with the P0128 code, you named off every part of the cooling system you know of as the cause. Big help.
The O2 sensor in question in the next thread is not a downstream "under the seat" sensor. Its says "Sensor 1" which is on the manifold. Wrong information.
And in the next one, why would you call a 2001 GS300 a 1st gen? It is a second gen and not even the first few years of it. Wrong.

Please stop responding to threads with wrong information and zero help answers.
