Default 01-04 tailights...install w/ 98-00 harness?

Hey y'all just wanted to ask if anyone tried to install the later GS tailights, using the 98-00 wire harness. It appears that the bulb/socket connection is too big to fit in the reverse light portion of the housing.

Did anyone just 'shave' off the excess plastic around the hole to get the darn thing in? If so what tool did you use. Any other ways to resolve this?

thanks

Where did you get it from? When I bought mine from the dealership it was just plug and play.

Bluelex is right. Its easier to purchase the harness than try to make the other fit. Contact Steve @ Carson Toyota for pricing.

I bought 2 pairs of the 01' tail lights and they both came with the harness. Why don't you guys have the harnesses? Everything should be included...just plug and play.

It depends on where you get them. Some dealers sell the lens and harness individually.

I bought recently '03 taillights on eBay and they did not come with the harnesses. I tried to go to the dealer to see if they sold just the smaller connector and then spice the wires, but they do not. You could probably Jerry-rig it, but if I were you I would just buy the harnesses at the dealer. They were right at $30 per harness.

I just order mine and they said it came with everthing- the entire assembly, including harness, bulbs etc.. Just Plug and Play- Brand new.. Make sure you guys are buying new because used would probably not have the harness cause its on someones's car..

I order mine from Carson Toyota - both Tail's for $350 plus shipping.. Not Bad !!!

I paid $160 for used taillights and are in perfect shape. $60 for the harnesses from the dealer. So even after the trip to the dealer, I still paid quite a bit less than new lights. There is nothing wrong with buying used, just know that the harnesses may not be included. I made that mistake. Ask the seller prior to the sale if the harnesses are included or you will get a nice $60 surprise.

Smile Thanks for the replies

thanks for all the replies.

I bought one near new condition 01-04 tailight off ebay for $70, harness included. the one i bought from Sewell Lexus off internet was like $150 plus shipping (without harness).
Okay I guess i could just buy the harness for one of the lights.

So to confirm, it is plug and play using the newer harness? with the existing wiring?

thanks again

Most dealers sell lights and harnesses seprately, the new ones are plug and play. The only difference I
remember is the reverse light uses a smaller bulb. Get a second person to activate stop, turn etc.
as they are not marked.
