1998 GS400 Price Advice Needed...
I've been following the forums for a few weeks now and am impressed with the amount of knowledge out there. So, being that you guys know the subject better than anyone else out there, I thought I'd run something by you to get your advice.
I'm looking at pickin' up a '98 Black GS400 with 63K miles including NAV, spoiler, etc for $21,400 with 2 sets of wheels and tires (chrome and alloy). Here's my dilemma...
1. Is $21,400 too high to pay for the car?? And is a '98 too old of a car to get today (relatively speaking)?
2. Being that we're practically in 2004, if I keep the car for 3-4 years and then sell it, will it have a decent resale value then?
3. Is it better to look for a 1999 or 2000? I wanna get a GS with the e-shifter.
4. Does anyone know first or second hand, how high in miles this car has gone with minimal to no problems?
Thanks a ton in advance for your help!!

Welcome FRGS to CL. I would use sites like KBB.com to get an idea of what that model would bring in your area. I know when I was looking it was hard to even find one locally that had the options I wanted.

Lead Lap
sounds pretty good
That sounds like a pretty good price, but it is correct that you will want to check in KBB or Edmunds to make sure that the price is right for your area. If I were looking at that car, I would make sure that the 60K service was done already (that can be a little pricey) and run the VIN through carfax to make sure that it's clean. I would also have a mechanic look over the car to make sure it's good to go. As far as mileage, there don't seem to be too many 98+ GS300/400s out there with more than 150K miles because you would have to basically drive the car all the time to rack up more than that in 5 years. When I was looking at the first gen GS300s, I called a guy who didn't specify the mileage and I asked him what the mileage was and he said 297,000 miles. Bottom line: these cars are reliable and bulletproof as long as the regular maintenance is done.

NO PROBLEMS YET!
I have a 98 GS with 96,000 miles on it. It has been great and I plan to use it for a few more years. I wish I can say the same thing about my 2003 GX.
