Good for you! You have one fast GS400 that can beat M3's!

PS Maybe he wasn't TRYING to race you??? Maybe he was minding his own business, saw you, had this expression... and LET you win??? Not every M3 driver is looking to race at every stop light ya know...I know I don't...

PSSST...It's not THAT great of a car IMHO...but don't tell any diehard M3 owners...I prefer the M5...but can't afford it...

Since this thread has been bumped up by someone voting in it, I'll throw in a quick comment.

Went riding in my buddies 03 M3 6 speed this Saturday... I'd ridden in it during the break in period when he couldn't take it above 5500RPM, now that he has it broken in he opened it up. All I have to say is

Damn

I already voted for the M3 and that ride cements my vote. I have a pretty heavily modded GS and I think he'd easily eat my lunch. He thought it'd be closer than I do - I guess the passenger in a car at WOT always feels like the car is going faster than it is since you aren't in control.

My bud is a weekend racecar driver and he knows how to shift/drive like a pro, so maybe if we're lucky we find a bad one when you line up . That thing is a BEAST.

Are we talking about modded GS4's INCLUDING FI?

Two of our members saw first hand what happened to an older M3 and really nice new one.

A GS400 with all mods short of forced induction and how it would do against a new M3 is the topic. The GS400 would need at least 300 RWHP/TQ to hang with a new M3. Is it possible to get that with non-FI mods?

Got it.

Doubtful then. I ran a new M3 on the highway and it's pretty stout. I got him pretty good, but he hung for a sec or two. They are pretty stout. Alot stouter than the older M3's. The newer M3's are no joke. I was impressed.

A GS400 have trouble keeping up with an older e36 M3. You will see a E46 M3's taillight every time.

To add to the topic, you do not get any extra HP with TC.

Not with the a GS400 with the mods listed. The newer ones, yes. The older ones, I'm not so sure.

See what I mean!!!!

I never raced one myself before I went FI, but I was pretty sure the old M3's wouldn't be a problem for a modded Gs4.

well when the gs400 first came out in 98 they claimed it's "the fastest sedan in the world" they'd better mean something or at least i proved that too, hah

I used to own a E36 M3 and I have beaten quiet a few modded GS4s. Stock E36 M3 does 0 to 60 in 5.5 and 1/4mi 14sec@100MPH. What does the GS4 do stock?

The pre-2000 M3's do scoot off the line a little quicker (lighter weight) but from any kind of a roll the GS400 should hang with them completely. I raced that model of M3 with my bone stock (except for superlight wheels) GS400 and it was pretty much dead even from a slow roll. Passenger + fuel weight / driver skill will likely determine the outcome of most of those stock vs stock encounters.
