Default POLL: Modded GS4 vs. M3

I've been wondering about this for awhile, cause I thought about the M3 as a car that many of us would own but chose Lexus instead..

Would a Moderately Modded GS with -Any Intake/Any Aftermarket exhaust, Torque Converter, TRD or RMM LSD, Sway bars, STB, Any suspension better than factory.. Be able to Take a Stock M3 [2001-up] (since M3's are factory Tuned machine)?? 0-60? and Quarter mile?

Can a Modded GS -

(1) Beat a 2001-Up M3 ??

(2) Equal to M3

(3) Close but M3 is winner by small margin...

(4) M3 would Smoke us!

Vote!! and Opinions Appreciated..

It will be #4 unless you have some sort of Force Induction. It will be car lengths.

you are talking about the new e46 m3 right? if so, then forget it, he will eat us anywhere, straight line, corners, etc.... even the m5, which is more comparable, will kill a modded gs4

Maybe I'm a bit optimistic but I've seen M3's run 0-60 Mph in 5.2-5.3 secs.. and Quarter miles in 13.7-14 sec range - in magazines.. I also seen M3's run 0-60 Mph in 4.7 secs.. theres alot of inadequacy there??
If it can run that fast it should be equal to an M5 but I really doubt that..

I've seen some post on here of Modded GS's with similar modds running 0-60 in 5.0-5.3 Secs and Quarter mile in the 13.7-13.9 Range..So this is something very close - I figure a Poll would solve.

I would say Equal to be fair (since GS's are bit heavier)but I love to know Who has beaten an M3!

sorry man it's not equal. don't doubt it, the m3 can do high 4 0-60 easy. it's one fast machine. car is small, and it has 333hp. the gs4 is heavier, and even with tc we are talking about maybe 260 to 270 at the wheels. forget it. and the m5, heavier than the gs4, but it has 400hp...

the amg c32 and e55 both have 4.5 to 4.6 0-60. the m3 and m5 are in that league....

Thumbs up not so sure

i think isn't going to be as a big a blow out as some are thinking, its all in the driving, and well the first 60 feet. convert m3 would be the easiest target

I have all the mods listed in the hypothetical and there is no way it would be close IMO. New M3 would take my GS and it would be at the line where it would eat the GS up IMO. So choice (4) is my answer!

M3 would smoke a GS unless it had FI with the suspension parts. M3 is just better balanced from the factory and less mass to through around.

Also are we talking the manual M3 or SMG? The GS modded has a better chance against a SMG M3.

Default M3

I had a 2001 M3 and that thing was quick..... At the track, I could run low 13's stock..... Ive been in a GS400 before, and the pull doesnt compare anything to the M3.... I say the m3 blows away the Gs.... just speaking from experience....

Hi Guys!

I have both and let me tell you the answer is unequivically NUMBER 4!!!!

The only way close is to add some kind of Forced Induction and the GS 4 can hang with the E46 M3 - the key word being "can hang". Even then, the M3 may still win.

It doesn't matter whether it's SMG, 6spd, or a vert....they will all smoke the GS with the mods listed in the initial thread...

Sorry to burst anyone's bubble.

Also, any kind of race is all about the driver. If you put my grandma in my M3, I am sure I can kick it's *** with my GS4. That kind of comparison has no validity. Same driver in both cars - M3 wins hands down every single time...unless the driver misshifts...in that case, it is the driver...but the driver is the same driver....Arghhhh SEE WHAT I MEAN???? It's a circular argument so let's drop the "it's all about the driver factor" to make it a more pure discussion...kay?

PS Let's not even touch the handling....

see, bliu has the answer for everyone and yeah, don't even try to talk about handling, bliu has demonstrated a little bit about the handling of his m3, STOCK with just eibach springs. my quite heavily modded gs400 has no chance on any turns

Drove both the GS 400 and new M3 and the M3 will swallow a GS4 alive.

not even in the same class: GS is a luxury sport sedan, M3 is purely sport designed racing machine with street legal badge!!!

If it was up to me, I would buy both cars and just forget that I ever read this thread! Sweet cars... both!
