Default Looking to buy a GS4

I'm going to get about 20K for a Lexus pending my high school grad. I know its going to be a GS4, but what I need to know is. What exterior differences are there from 98-2001? Also What year comes with the factory HIDs, and navi system?

Thanks,
James.

Welcome James.

From the exterior the cars is essentially the same, except for the 2001 which is a GS430 (slightly different grill pattern, different tail lights, different badges).

All years 98+ can come with factory HID and Nav. On early years HID was an option on the GS4, I think it may have become standard later on. Navigation is also always an option on 98+ GSs. 1998 - 2000 it is hard drive based. 2001 + it is DVD based with a bigger and better screen.

There are LOTS of posts asking about features and differences between GS400 and GS430, please try the search feature on the forum to find them and you'll get a lot of additional info I didn't include here. Primarily the e-shift would be a big decision factor for me in keeping a GS400 vs a GS430.

well 2 b honest if u'r looking at spending about 20k ..than u need 2 b looking at 98,99 and mayb 2000 but i doubt it u'll find a 2000 4 around 20k unless ir has a lot of miles... and thier is no real difference between the 98 or 99...u should find it with hid, heated seats, and all the other power items... i just picked a 98 blk on blk with hid ,nav, power everything, plus the chrome oem 17's with 80k miles 4 $18.5k so u should one around that range in a lot of places.....good luck

yep, if you are looking to spend no more than 20k, ur gonna be getting a 98 or 99. look at autotrader.com, cars.com, car dealer, ebay, etc.

we got our 98 gs4 on autotrader. came w/ nakamichi premium sound, hid, htd seats, moonroof, and only 33,000 miles for $22,500. that was back in sept keep your eyes out and make sure you decide ahead of time, what options you want. Make sure you get teh color you want. Remember, dont impulse shop

I wouldn't neccesarily count on finding one for $18.5k... BlueLex found a great deal.. at a dealership at that. Most GS400's here in Atlanta are not going for less than 20k even with 120k miles on them. Shop around, if you have patience you might be able to find one, don't expect it though, I think what BlueLex found was defenitly out of the ordinary.... IMHO

Here are the changes between 98 -00 from Edmunds.com:
The 1999 model goes unchanged except for the addition of daytime running
lights and standard floor mats.
The 2000 GS 400 gets a new BrakeAssist system and child seat-anchor brackets.
Crystal White and Millennium Silver Metallic replace Diamond White Pearl and Alpine Silver Metallic.

I just checked autotrader.com for GS4 under $20K for all areas and there are several under 60K miles and one with 39K miles.

DMZ,

Welcome to ClubLexus. Please try doing a search for the words 'common probl*** and you'll find many threads that already discuss this information.

Couple of examples I found in about 10 seconds:
