If the car was not bought @ an auction. The dealer should replace the computer for free and charge you only for the the key set (or master key which ever way you go) and the cost of programing the key. The key set cost around $500.00 - $600.00. You can also get a master key with out a chip.
Toyoto has this same program that they are doing.

But if they car was bought @ an auction and someother place (can't remember of the top of my head) the lexus will not pay for a new computer. I do have this memo in my desk @ work. I will look at it when I get to work.

I will PM you as soon as I go over the meno that I have.

Default CALL LEXUS CUSTOMER SERVICE

Hello,
So many different stories are out there about these keys and security. I would advise you to do the following:

1. Call Lexus Customer Service at (800) 255-3987 and register your car in your name. You will need to be registered as the owner on their database before any keys can be cut.

2. Ask to speak to a Customer Service Representative. If you do not have owner's manuals for your car (they seem to disappear after a car is traded -in), they will provide them free of charge to you.

3. Tell them of your dilemma (having only the valet key when the car was bought). Lexus has been known to step up to the plate and provide assistance with a new computer and keys as a "goodwill gesture"...Be SURE to ask for the assistance as GOODWILL. It HAS happened before. The car would go into service and the computer would be changed as a normal service. I just received a new pioneer radio free of charge because of the garbled LED readout on most 98-00 GS and LS radios. That would have cost me $600.00, because it was out of Lexus factory warranty, and NOT a CPO car. They still managed to get it done. The dealership even sent a technician to my office to do the work and was done in 20 minutes. Saved me a trip to the dealer, and for everything, I am eternally grateful.

Give it a try...all they can do is say no.

GSEREP1.

When I bought my car from a non-Lexus Dealer I wasn't even thinking about how many keys came with the car. It just slipped my mind while I was negotiating. When the papers were signed and the deal was final, he handed me the key and I was like WHOA! He told me he didn't have it and tried to rush me out. But I stopped him right there. I knew I can't just go to the nearest Lexus Dealer and pick up a key for free. I made him write a receipt that he will take care of another key. 2 weeks later he had the key ready for me.

Most of the time a good will gesture is done by Lexus if they feel it was from a malfunction on their part. Losing a key or buying a car with only 1 key has nothing to do with them since the Dealer was not from Lexus. But you never know. Find out by calling them. You might get a Christmas present. Good luck.
