Default Should I sell the GS4 for a Porsche Boxter S..

Hey guys...

May be its that time of thye year..everyone thinking of selling their rides...
.
.
Anyway..Here is the deal..My wife has seen me B*tch about the handling of the GS ...
We were just talking and the "car" subject came out and turns out she likes the Porsche Boxter...
I like the car too..its no 911 but I have driven a base Boxter (cousin's) and until I really gave it a good thrashing..I used to think of it as a "cheap" porsche..but it really is a great car on its own ..
Anyways..what do you guys think..is it a good trade off..
I can get a 2000/2001 boxter S...
what do you all think

Boxter S has INCREDIBLE handling. However, if you appreciate having ANY storage room, forget it. Only in 2003 did they even add a GLOVEBOX. The Boxter is also very firm and won't be comfortable for any reasonable length of trip (not that you could take any luggage anyway ).

They're such different cars. If you want a real sports car, go for the Boxter. If you like some room and take long trips, stay with the GS.

Love the Boxster S, but I think you should wait to test the new GS coming out before making the switch, it should be significantly improved.

No need to wait if he's interested in a sports car. No matter what they do with the new GS it will still be NOTHING like a Boxter S (not saying one is 'better' than the other, just completely different).

It all depends on what your needs are with driving. They are 2 totally different vehicles and personally if you were going to sell the GS I would sell it now before the New Model arrives. For the price of a new Boxster you could probrally get a 99' C4 or C2, which are excellent first time Porsche cars. I personally loved my 99' C4, just be careful and don't get bit by the Porsche Bug. Check out the Boxster Gemballa:

To answer some..I will not be buying a new Boxter..I am thinking of spending 35K ..so it will have to be a 2000/2001 Boxter S...
I agree with all of you that the two cars are soo different that comparison is pointless..
I also agree that whatever thy do to the new GS400 it will not be a Sports car....plus I cant see myself spending 50K or more for a 2005 GS400.....
When spending 50K or more..there are just too many choices out there in the new and used car market..

Two very different cars indeed. Decide what you really want the car for....

GS is although much more practical IMO.

Good luck with your decision...you can't go wrong with either.

Kam1996, I understand your pain. I was also considering the Boxer S. I decided to wait for stats on the new GS and the new 2005 Corvette. Remember the new boxer is due in 2005. Be patient, 9 more months is worth the wait.

but you all also have to keep in mind that the GS400 has more horsepower and is much faster...so if speed is the game, then I would say the GS400 has the upper hand IMO.

Default Boxster for Sure

The Boxster S is sweet and I heard its like being on a motorcycle on 4 wheels. Plus its a porsche. I couldn't handle the GS's boatiness as well and had too get rid of the damn thing. Now got a 350z ad luv the transition of going back too a sports/coupe.

I have both (GS400 & Boxster). I like the GS400 awhole lot better then the Boxster.
It's soo much easer to get in and out of. But don't get me wrong the Boxster is a fun little car for the spring and summer. The handling isn't too great, our Z3 is much better handling than the Boxster.
All I can say is each to his own.
You can't really go wrong either which way you go.

The question you have to ask yourself is whether this will really be just a fun "weekend" car and if not, how practical it will be.

I also have a car for the daily commute (QX4) and a car for weekend fun (GS300), but I find myself driving the "fun" car to work a couple of days a week anyway. (Let's face it... it's hard to leave a desirable car in the garage 5 days a week.) If I had an actual sports car, the bumper-to-bumper commute would probably be miserable.

If you live in a fairly metropolitan area where traffic is bad (like where isn't it these days?), will you really have the opportunity to enjoy all that the Boxster has to offer? If you can truly answer "yes" to the question... or if you are in a rural area... I'd definitely go for the Boxster. If not, I'd stick with the Lexus.
