Default Delay of Game!

I love my GS, but the only thing that is really bugging me is the poor throttle response. When I push the gas there is like a half second delay before any acceleration results. Other people that drive my car notice right away and I always find myself making excuses for the thing. Any ideas? ECU reset?

Never driven a GS430 but its acceleration is about the same as GS400. See if your Lexus dealer would let you drive another GS430 at their lot and determine whether your vehicle is significantly slower than other GS430.

My suggestion. Re-set the ECU, for the next week or so mash the gas like crazy. The computer will learn the response and your GS will take off quicker.

you can do whatever you want, but its not going to help any. This problem has been racking my brain ever since ive owned the car. The gas pedal is done by drive-by-wire.....what does this mean? when you step on the pedal, the position is sent to the computer which then sends the information to the throttle body...all electronically of course, I have had the dealer do 2 flashes on the ecu on different occasions to see if it would help and no dice. It does definately suck and I know exactly how you feel....if you drive down the free way...and take your foot off the gas ...then do a quick tap of the pedal (lets say you tap it to its half way point) the throttle body doesnt even get the information until a whole 2 seconds later....lame lame lame....its about the only thing I hate with a passion about the car...but hey if you ever learn how to fix this problem please do post

Hey Tim, good to see you back.

Rumor has it that the A6 4.2 has this same issue. I agree that it is the drive by wire throttle. Drive a GS400 and it will seem much snappier. Did you ever do anything with your steering feel or are you still driving with one finger on the steering wheel?

I am surprised this did not work for you. I have a GS300 (a little different) but experienced the same problem. I went in to get my coilovers put in and they disconnected the ECU and battery while doing it to make sure nothing went wrong when they were fiddling around.

Upon getting it back, I drove *aggressively* for about a week and there was some noticeable difference. I guess maybe the V8's are different.

pull the battery cord or the fuse, your choice.

recently at a meet i met someone who told me that after installing a grounding kit his throttle response improved significantly. i will be trying this soon and will let you all know how it does.

Hey Doug- I ended up smacking a curb pretty good with a carload of underage bikini models, and when I went to get a 4 wheel laser done, the tech told me the alignment could not be returned "to specs" as I had bent something. However, when I drove it the pull is gone and after 10k miles there is no uneven tire wear. I can show you how to do it if you need help

Not a rumor. A6 4.2 does have the same issue. I owned one for 8 months. Nearly got into a couple of accidents trying to change lanes in rush hour traffic.

BTW, SC430 also has the same issue. Very disappointing off the line and it is the result of drive-by-wire. Not too much you can do off the line, but if you manually row through the gears at speed you should get a quicker response.

instead of slamming down the gas try this, depress the accelerator at a steady firm quick rate and it wont / shouldnt lag.

You can show me how to get those underage bikini models? Must get to Calif, must get there.

The GS300 is the same way. When I took delivery of my fist GS, I thought it was the car and something was wrong with it. I was a little annoyed by it. I took that car back and took delivery of another one and it had the same issue. I later learned it was the drive by wire set up and there wasn;t really much you could do but wait for the car to go.
