Hi, Guys,
It's been some time since i've posted, reason being my daughter passed away in Oct and my live has taken on new priorities, anyway, this morning i think i stumbled onto a possible reason for the low idle issue affecting our cars. Last winter i was having this same problem. It corrected itself sametime after winter , dont recall when, but up until this morning my idle speed was spot on.700rpm. This is how it changed, while going through the lincoln tunnel this morning (23 degrees) i smelt the exhaust fumes from the car ahead of me, wondered why the system had not switched over to recylcling air, so i manually switched over ,in doing so the middle auto light went off, hit it again and it came on again. After this my idle speed dropped to 450 rpm and has not returned to normal. The manual says never to turn off the AC and if you do the rpm will drop to 450 rpm but when you turn it on again it returns to normal, (Summer time that is). This morning i lowered the temp setting to 70 to try to start the AC thinking the compressor would start up and bring the rpm back up, did not work did not blow cold air. My conclusion is that the low idle is directly related to the auto climate control setup. what do you guys think.
Clive.

Clive, very sorry to hear about your daugher.
On your car -is what you're saying that you turned the AC on and didn't have the problem? When I switch mine GS to 'auto' the ac always comes on with it (and I have to manually turn it off).

Hi Guys,
The low idle started when i turned the AC auto "off ". When i pressed the button with the 3 lights, the auto light goes off and the rpm drops, when i pressed it again the auto light goes green but the rpms remain low and has not returned to normal. I am not sure if i simply did not lower the set temp low enough but it would normally start up if i set it to 70 deg (blowing cold air). Howerver i am not really concerned about it , it was made by man and therefore will never be perfect. The car does not stall when i come to a stop so i will just ignore it , just thought other more qualified CL members who are bugged out by this will investigate this avenue a little further and hopefully find a solution to this issue.ie. if it has not previously been explored.

Clive,
Most people (including me) don't have the low idle problem when the air conditioner is 'on', regardless of temperature setting.
FWIW, my GS has never stalled... it's just an annoying little engine vibration.
