Black Onyx is not clearcoated.
Zaino's Z-3 Show Car Polish for Regular Paint, will make the paint appear as if it does, etc. etc. it's the subsitute for polishes that are made for clearcoats.

okay i forgot where i read this but i read somewhere on these forums where someone had stated that the black oynx paint did not have clear coat on the 1999 and below models but from 2000 and up black is clear coated. has anyone know if this is true or someone just didn't get his facts straight.

This same question has been going around the SC430 board for days. Everyone has checked with every "expert" in the business, including Lexus Customer Service, and everyone has been given different answers.
I also have an '03 GS in Black and was told that if you used a cleaner wax on it and didn't see any paint residue you could assume the paint was clearcoated. I used Zymol cleaner wax a couple of weeks ago and saw no residue whatsoever on the white applicator, so I'm assuming it is clearcoated. That's about as scientific as I can get.
BTW, I ordered Zaino Z5 for swirl marks. I believe it works on either type of paint. Used it yesterday and the results are outstanding.
