Guys,

I know we've been through this before, but now that the old forum is gone, I can't check back.
I've decided to get the S/S Borla, and want to know where the best place is to get it, roughly how much is a good price to pay, and how easy is it to install. My hubby did most of his mods on the Cobra, so he'll be doing it for me.

Any help would be appreciated.....

Thanks

C.

C - just curious - was wondering why you're going with the Borla over the L-Tuned?

I believe 'csr's car has a Borla exhaust (who I met at the last two meets), and this picture is of the tip on his...

And this is of the L-Tuned one on my car...

Maybe Borla has changed it since the Borla in the first pic was taken, but one thing I didn't care for on the Borla is that 'pipe within a pipe' design (which the stock GS exhaust has too). The L-Tuned one doesn't have it, which is why I prefer it.

Default Must be older style

BitK:

I believe the exhaust you have pictured below are an older style Borla or SOB (some other brand). Mine look more like the L-tuned, I'd say just slightly larger mainly because they are more oval in shape rather than rounded. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of them, but Mo has several pictures of his car with them on http://www.swiftracing.com/ under the exhaust section. I bought mine from him and he also installed them at the same time as other mods.

LL - if you're in Charlotte sometime, you are welcome to swing by sometime to look & listen to them.

Cool Borlas

Charonne - The cheapest place I found the S/S Borlas is from Summit Racing but don't bother to try them online. The Borlas are ordered on an "as needed" basis so just call Summit @ 1-800-230-3030. I THINK the part number is BOR-11730 for the S/S & BOR-11729 for the C/F ( too loud, IMO ). The S/S go for around $339 & the C/F's are $427 & there's a 7-10 business day wait on them but Summit can have them drop-shipped to you directly to save time. BTW - I love Muhammad but he wanted more $$ for the Borlas & I waited over a month for them ( he gets the rest of my money, anyway!! ) so keep that in mind. Hubby won't have any trouble with them as it's a simple 2 bolt/muffler procedure ( about a 14mm size, I recall ) & U don't need to raise the GS onto ramps for this, especially if U haven't dropped yours yet. I'd advise getting 2 spare gaskets from your dealership first as the originals may tear on ya! Might want to check out TXSTYLE's post on aligning them into the rear bumper cover cutouts or just use my McGyver method I posted.
Bit - Those are RMM mufflers on Nimesh's ( csr ) GS - I should know because those are my old mufflers!! He bought all my old stuff the first time I let my wife nag me into leaving the GS alone - good eyes by Dave, as well!

You should check out the GReddy exhaust. I put my GS 430 on a dino and gained 12hp to the wheels. Plus it sounds great. I think it is the best one out there. Also it has a three year warranty. That was one of my concerns. Other companies have a limited warranty. Just wait tell you have send you Borla exhaust back for warranty and see what happens. (and you will have send it back after 6 months, i know i did.) anyway i still have never received my money back. On the other hand the greddy system i have is great.

That is definitely not my Borla S/S look like. It's more like an oval shape. I think they look better than L-tuned. Just a personal opinion. If you want, I could try to record the sound of the exhausts via my laptop.

You can order the exhausts from summit (cheaper if you get it from SRT) but you have to call them. Borla S/S shouldn't disappoint you.

Question What Happened?

Kodai - What happened to your Borlas? I've had mine on the GS for over a year with no problems but I only picked up 8 HP on my dyno tests. Also had Borlas on my 600 HP Lingenfelter 'Vette ( w/nitrous ) for 3+ years & again, no problems. Something I need to look out for?

DAMN, $339 for the Borlas is a GREAT DEAL!! I might need to check that out. I know the RMM mufflers are like $700. IMO tho, it doesn't make that much of an APPERENCE difference! The Greddy or RMM system would make more of a statement. But for 400 bucks, the HP and SOUND difference would be nice!! What about the Greddy?? How much are those?? Where would be the best place to get those?? Any other exhaust systems I should look into??

Thanks everyone. That's what I love about this forum.....

But I do have another question: What is the difference "soundwise" between the S/S Borla, and the L-tuned? I'm looking for that typical V8 "rumble", and I want the car to sound mean at WOT, but I'm don't want the neighbours to hear me coming from miles away.

RacingAristo:

If you could record the sound of the Borla I would be so grateful. I think that someone had done that on the old forum, I remember hearing it somewhere.

Thanks again Guys

Exclamation

Don't forget that Borla's website has sound recordings also. Great feature. A nice burble out of the tail would be nice upon heavier acceleration, and stock quiet most other times.

LexusLady,

In my understanding, L-tuned exhausts are quieter than Borla but both of them are considered "quiet" compared with Greddy. I'll try to record the sound today if possible.

Default oops

First off, apologies for confusing things by comparing an RMM exhaust with the L-Tuned!

As far as sound, if my L-Tuned were any louder I'm not sure I'd like it. But LexusLady, I *definitely* get the low, "I'm here" 'woof' on startup, but at warmed up idle it's barely any louder inside the car than stock. On part or WOT though I definitely now get that low growl or roar, similar somewhat to a corvette if I recall correctly. Cars along side me at lights NOTICE when I pull away, but hopefully I haven't upset the neighbors yet.

I could try to record mine, but I think a laptop recording won't get it right (the microphones in them stink, and I don't know if I have the adaptors etc., to hook up a better microphone to it).

As far as comparing Borla to L-Tuned, it doesn't seem like anyone has done a side by side comparison. I don't know anyone locally with a Borla.

While it may sound and look great, the one thing I don't like about the G-Reddy is that the mufflers are round, not flat/oval, so there's MUCH more chance of scraping the ground.

Having said all that... if the Borla is a quality piece and similar in sound to the L-Tuned, AND it sounds like it's a lot cheaper ($339 vs. $579 I paid for L-tuned), then it sounds like the way to go.

Thanks Bit.
I'm going to call my Lexus dealer on Monday and see what they'd charge for the L-tuned exhaust and installation. Where did you get yours from, and did you install yourself? $579 was a good deal, from what I've seen on the TRD/L-Tuned site, they're running closer to $675.... Do you know if you can get it from Steve? (Sorry all the questions )

As far as the GReddy exhaust, that is really "not my style". No offense to anyone that has one, but I prefer the more subdued look, as opposed to the larger tips.

C.

Unhappy Problem...

alright i have a problem

i wanna dyno my GS3 but i already have the GReddy and i don't have the stock exhaust anymore! plus, i would like to weigh the stock exhaust and my greddy to see if i've taken off pounds. Mo has a dyno of his GS3 before and after the Intake, but how close would that be to mine? i have over 60K now guys, is my car a lot slower now? how much work would go into gettin the internals all cleaned up like new? maybe even polish and port the valves... hehe well thanx guys, 11HP at the rear wheels?? impressive! i would really like to get some good 1/4 Mile times, stock, exhaust, and tc, one at a time.
Lexlady, thats so cool that you're getting an exhaust! what else do you plan to get? Would i be looking at about an 8HP gain from the rear wheels with my GReddy? i thought it was minimal, something like 2-4HP!
