Unhappy GS 300 slower than IS 300 ?

So, nearly every all of us who have the IS 300 complain of being gutless, so is the GS 300 even slower....I am seriously thinking of trading my 2002 IS 300 for a new 2004 GS 300.....I have always like the GS, I can't really justify 50K for the GS 430.....but I guess with the GS 300 you get a nice cruiser, I have really liked the IS 300.....I wish Lexus had just put more power in it ! Stupid Acura TL's now have 270 HP...so frustrating

....anyway, I wish now for a GS 300 only for more room the IS gets a litlle cramped

Once you drive the IS, you won't like the mushy ride of the stock GS. When I got the
IS for a loaner, I LOVED the ride on that thing. So nimble, low, and responsive yet
doesn't have a problem going in dips and curbs. Yeah, it is a little small. The GS is
a good cruiser but prepare to modify the suspensions.

Oh, it is a little slower b/c it's heavier.

Why don't you just get a CPO 2002 GS430 and stop complaining about it not being fast enough? Should be similarly optioned and priced.

i second what dave said....plus, don't some or all of hte GS430's come with ltune suspension and steering? if so, that ought to alleviate the sudden adjustment to the gs's mushiness in comparison to the IS

yup, to me the is300 is very slow, and the gs4 is fast enough for me. the gs3 is even worse than the is3 of course, same engine on a car that's heavier, you tell me. (i am already on is300 5 speed already and it's still slow).

i agree with davegs4, get a used gs400 or gs430 that's much better

the gs4 has better resale value than the gs3 i believe, and to me the price of the gs430 is totally justified. it's a v8 in there, just the engine alone is like 10k more

Some people like to have a new car. He rather have a 2004 GS300 with the plastic wraping still on the seats than a used GS400/430. I know the feeling. Can't argue with that.

We had a race for all Lexus models in one of our Dallas meet. The result was:

GS4 > IS3 > GS3

Based on how you drive, where you drive (in LA it's really hard to experience the full capabilites of the GS while in traffic), what are your future intentions with the car, etc...all play into this. For pure performance, go GS4...

I went with a new GS3 after test driving used GS3 & 4 and basically decided that the exclusive nature of the car (SportDesign model w/ Blackwood), color combo, endless upgrade possibilities, and a price I couldn't beat sold me on it Also, the used cars just seemed too beat up for my tastes...I wanted something super-clean, etc... and just couldn't find it.

In terms of resale value, my car is still worth more than what I paid for it and it's an '02...and I bought it brand new below blue book .

If there was a GS4 at the time that was as interesting as mine, I probably would of jumped on it 'cause I love the power with zero mods!

Just received March issue of Car and Driver. IS300 manual 5-sp is in the $35K sports sedans comparison test. IS300 ran 7.3 0-60 and 15.5 1/4 Mile. The last GS300 test by Car and Driver was March 03. GS300 ran 8.0 0-60 and 16.1 1/4 Mile. TL 6-speed manual ran 5.8 0-60 and 14.5 1/4 Mile in the same comparison test. If you want more power, get the GS430 or GS400.

well you don't have to go high speed to enjoy the v8. the pickup of v8 is insane. hey i live in LA (and san jose) too so i know how it goes. with the v8 i can pass pretty much anyone at will that's kinda fun

I opted to buy a GS3 over an IS3 for one simple fact......the interior of the IS just did not do anything for me!! I also opted for the GS3 over the 4 because at some point my car will se FI.....and it can be done easier on the 3 than on the 4

I am not arguing that point! I love to pass people as well...maybe I will have to seriously consider the SC to keep up or sell and get a GS4 (unfortunately "playing" with my car just drives the wife insane )
