Bringing a used Lexus into CA - Emissions
HI,
I did a search and could not find anything on this topic.
Anyone know if the GS400 series sold outside CA will pass CA emissions. I'm looking for a used GS400 and have been tempted to buy one out of state and have it shipped but the CA DMV site is a little unclear about whether this is allowed. I think they allow it with vehicles over 7500 miles but it sounds like they still require you to have the car pass CA emissions testing. I'm worried if the car wasn't built for it it will never pass. Anyone have any experience with this?
Chris

Lexus Is A 50 State Car
There should be NO reason why an out of state Lexus will not pass emissions. These cars have been classified as 50 state emission certified for quite a few years now. If the car has been previously sold and registered in another state, the car has to have at least 7500 miles before registering in California. Nearly all of the cars made today are designed to pass California emissions, which are some of the most stringent in the country.
If they pass the California emission when it is manufactured, obviously it will pass every other states' standards. Check the under-hood emissions tag on the car. It should certify which standards it will pass.
Go and have a good time shopping for out of state vehicles...there are lots of good cars out there.
