I have just been told, by a very reliable source who works for Lexus, that the 2006 V8 GS will have 400+hp. This was not released at the Detroit Auto Show for obvious reasons, but will be later on this year (some speculation more will be said at NY auto show). If you are as excited as me about this development, you know there has to be a catch. Well there is. The V8 GS will be hybrid powered. 300 hp from gasoline engine, and 100 hp from the electric motors.

Not that I can shed any light on this subject about HP, but I seen the car in person yesterday at the Chicago Auto Show and there was no talk of more HP by the Lexus guy. I love HP but I am kinda glad I didn't get the V8 it would get me in trouble as my daily driver. Even though all that HP would be nice, I am looking forward to the AWD especially after the winter we have been having. Except for the fact (as this was dicussed 100's of times) that from the 1/4 panel back it looks very similar to the Maxima, the new GS is very nice, finally the car sits right will little wheel well space.

I agree. AWD is the one feature I am most excited about in the new GS. The HP numbers are relative for me, they wont mean much when I am stuck in rush hour traffic anyway.

Until I see the hybrid AWD V8 in person or is officially released by Lexus, there's not much to believe.

FWIW there was an article on automotive news, an interview with Denny Clements, Lexus' General Manager, actually discussing among other things bringing higher hp cars out under an Amg/M Car type brand. They did not go into a lot of detail, but this engine definately seems feasible. IMO, If it does happen I think it is atleast 2 years away...

There wouldn't be (if you buy into any of this) the traditional extra drive shaft, center differential, locking hubs, etc, that add all of that extra weight and steal HP
