and depending on how much you willnig to mod the car. if you go very crazy, which means A LOT Of money, you can make the i6 very fast, 600hp. but that's a lot of money for turbo and you need some good tuning. you can get the same power on the gs4, even for NA, if you tune it well, you can get 500rwhp if you want, but that's also a lot of money and work.

if you just want to talk about reasonable amount of money for most people, the v8 has a lot more juice
thanks a lot for your info . how much power did the 98-00 GS 400's make? and was navigation rare or something, i'm having a tough as hell time finding a color i like with navigation, and i was searching through both 98-00's and 01-04's..

98-00 gs400, 4.0L v8, 300hp, 310tq
01-05 gs430, 4.3L v8, 300hp, 325tq

the 98-00 has the hdd base nav, whereas the new ones have the dvd based nav. i just know that for 98 nav was a bit harder to find, and gradually nav becomes more and more available. i don' tknow how hard it is to find one with nav though. just be patience, you can eventually find the car you like

thanks a lot, that really helps! i was wondering what options could come with the GS, so that when the dealer tells me a GS he has is 'fully loaded', i'll know exactly how 'loaded' it is

well now that you just have to read the info on lexus.com, they are as informative as one can get

and honestly, i don't usually just go in and listen to those sales people talking. most of the tmie i know more than they do anyway. that's the thing. you always do research before you go, coz' they always put out all information as if the car can fly

I say dont worry about the NAV. IMHO, you should get an aftermarket one. It will be newer, nicer, and overall better system than stock. But then again....thats out of pocket cash as opposed to a stock NAV on top of your loan. I dunno...its an OPTION for you to look at.

Cobra -- in the big scheme of things, that's not a lot of miles because the GS is practically bullet-proof, assuming it's well maintained. However, that being said, that really is a lot of miles for an 01, especially when compared to the cars I've seen on ebay and autotrader. I have a 98 GS4 with 68,000 miles. I'll be looking for an 01 when the 06 comes out, and I expect to be able to find one fairly easily in the 30,000 to 40,000 mile range. I think you just need decide what's important to you (e.g., color, nav, 17s, etc.) and what's not important to you, and then stick to your guns about what's important and be flexible about what's not important. In hindsight, I wasn't flexible enough with my 98 when it came to color. I was so dead set on silver/black that I gave up on some other things that would have been nice to have.
