Hey everybody,
I'm looking to buy the L-Tuned Recalibrated Steering ECU soon and would love to hear your opinions of it. There has been much discussion recently of exhausts, suspensions parts and other things and I would just like to see response towards the ECU.
It costs $120-$140, and is easy to install.
The question is, is it worth it?
Can you actually feel? Does it stiffen the steering somewhat? Is it more responsive?
What about at slow speeds, is it hard to park, etc.?
Please name the situations you feel the car w/ the ecu responds better than a car without.
Also, anyone still have the directions on how to install the ECU? It was on the old forum under "Maintenance" I believe by Y2KGS4.

Steering ECU
The steering ECU tightens up the car quiet a bit a higher speeds. Gone is the "floaty" feeling in the Lexus. I think because the cost is so reasonable, and the installation is a snap, it's worth the investment. The changes are not dramatic, they are very subtle.
I'm running Eibachs, so I don't know how it will be on a stock car. The springs alone made quite a difference; next for me will be the sways.

The ECU is a no brainer.
It was my first upgrade and was good even before I did any handling mods.
Be warned though, it's a slippery slope... ECU, then springs/shocks, then wheels, the bars, then ... bankruptcy?

ECU is a good upgrade
I had the L-Tuned steering ECU and suspension installed at the same time, so some of what I feel in the steering is almost certainly attributable to the stiffer suspension, but I love the feel of the steering wheel now. There's really no slop or noticeable dead spots. After the installation I compared it to my wife's BMW Z3 2.8 in roadfeel transmitted through the steering wheel, but it's a little softer than that after driving them both for a while.
I would generally recommend this upgrade to anyone. In fact, I think Lexus should make the L-Tuned ECU the default steering ECU for the car, but that's me.
The suspension upgrade I would recommend only to those who favor stability and roadfeel over cushiness and isolation (like me!), but that's not everyone.

I'm tempted to get the ECU now cause the price is really good but then I'm really bad at electric stuff. Where should I go for installation?
heh heh Sasha, Most of RA's stuff are not seen from the outside. Saw his car, only the wheels are really obvious. It's one hella car though~

There is nothing electronic about it's installation. A couple of screws, and then plug and play. There is no word to describe someone who couldn't do it without making myself sound very mean and inconsiderate.

If you go with the SRT intake+ECU and then the L-tuned steering ECU -- I assume these two ECU's go in separate places; otherwise, are you doing a piggy back or what? Sorry if that's a dumb question.

steering ECU is located at driver seat and while SRT's one located under the engine hood.
Globe is right. You can hardly distinguish my car from the outside. One thing for sure, you can definite hear the nice deep v8 sound when I floor the car.
