Just got my system installed today. I'm running a 700 watt amp with 2 12" Punch Comps. I must say that the stock battery is not holding up. All of my lights are dimming pretty bad. What's a good brand to get to replace the stock?

Man, when I had my TL, there weren't any probs. with the stock batt. What's up with that?

Angry My Batt Sux too!

Lexus need to upgrade on the battery size! When i got my subs in my GS we had some battery problems, battery would die, and its a pretty crappy amp! My dad's LS400 has had a bad battery all its life, dying out and stuff. I suggest that (in an ideal setup) you get a stiffening cap, new battery (a HUGE one), and a new alternator. I can't afford any of these options, hopefully you can.

Get an Optima Yellow top. 700CCA. It is a deep cycle battery. I used to have a lot of dimming problems on my Pathfinder, I'm pushing a good 700watts rms. Should be $180 at your local Batteries Plus.

Thumbs up Optima Yellow Top

Dazz - Yep, get the Yellow Top & consider adding a 1 farad stiffening cap to your bass setup. It'll add quicker response to those rapid bass transitional notes where the battery itself can't keep up. U won't need a bigger alternator with your current system so save that money. Didn't U have a post on the old Forum about being left stranded in downtown Houston a few months back with a bad battery or do I have ya confused with another member?

Question I also have this problem

i also am having this problem, but when the stereo is off and i just rev the car a bit to charge the battery it still dies! could the cold weather have anything to do with this? how will a stiffining cap hold the battery's charge? will a bigger battery be all i need?

You guys have me worrying about my battery now. I have 70k on the 96 LS and it has a Lexus battery. I bought the car Certified with 50k so I can only guess if it is the factory original. Have had ZERO problems. What is the average Lexus battery life everyone gets?

Thanks for everyones replies. Yeah, I'm gonna go get the yellow top this weekend. If that doesn't help much, I'll try the stiffening cap. And no, that was not me that got stranded. I just got my Lex a week ago.

Unhappy Cap Won't Help Your Battery

Sasha - It sound like U have a weak/dying battery or a bad alternator. Go have them checked at a reputable shop or borrow a tester that applies a load to the battery & DIY. Can also put a metter on the battery with the car off & again with it running - should have 12+ V off & 14 V while running. If it's below 12V when off, your battery's weak & if it doesn't register 13+ V while at idle, your alternator may be going out. The stiffening cap will only help your stereo when the bass notes - it has nothing to do with your car's charging system. Also, yes, cold weather will make your battery's weakness more easily noticeable.
