Having said that, if my wife weren't looking at getting the RX400h as our "comfortable people mover" (a role currently played by my GS430), I'm not sure I'd be as serious about the coupe.

Obviously, it is very difficult to predict the depreciation of a new model (G35), but traditionally Lexus products depreciate less than Infinitis.....especially the Infiniti Q45, which has never been popular. The All-Wheel-Drive G35 will be worth more than a base G35 at re-sale time....but will also cost more up front.

But your point is well taken. A used GS will have already taken its major depreciation hit. A new G35, or any new car for that matter, will typically take a heavy hit the second it's driven off the lot. I am curious, though, about how the introduction of the 3rd-gen GS will affect the value of the 2nd-gen GSes.

Recently purchased my wife an 02 RX300. Still has factory warranty, plus certified warranty, loaded for more then $10K off the price of a new truck. With cars this reliable and the dealer treatment, I see no need to spend the extra $10K.
On your question of value of the 2nd Gen GS when the 3rd Gen comes out, I believe it will take a small hit but nothing insane. The new RX330 is out and it made a very small change to existing RX300's out there.
