Default How can I tell if my car is ceritified

I purchased a Lexus. Their is a sticker on the door jamb which says certified and the service record shows certified but I never received seperate paper work. Is this something I should recieve or is it only in their computer?

Thanks

to my knowledge, you can only purchase a certified vehicle from a Lexus, and they should definitely provide you with various pieces of documentation/manuals.

I guess the easiest way would be to call or visit a Lexus dealership and give them the VIN number.

Did you buy it at a Lexus dealer? When I bought my CPO I got a copy of the CPO warranty, but the important part was that it was carried in the dealer computer.

I bought it at a Lexus dealer, but I did not receive any independent paper work. I had them print out the service records and it stated Certified Pre-Owned inspection but did not say anything else. My salesperson will be out until Friday. I guess I should have been more direct during the negotiation but I got tied up with the final price. If not certified they want $2150 for a 7 year / 100K warranty. Does that sound right.

It might have gone through the certification inspection - my LS did, but is not CPO like my GS was - and not be certified. There is a mile max restriction on what can be CPO (I don't remember exactly what it is, either 50K or 65K) as well.

Most likely if you bought the car from a reputable Lexus dealer the car is certified. You can comfirm this by looking a the drivers door jam there should be a sticker saying Lexus Certified. Furthermore for Lexus to certify a car it would have to have less than 60K.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies, it only has 21K miles and is under 3 years old that is why they are offering the 7 year 100k warranty. I do have the sticker on the door jamb, but I fear it went through the inspection process but was not certified, that is why I am asking if there is some type of paperwork to go along with it. I guess I could take my chances and argue the fact if it has a warranty issue after the 4 year 50k mile warranty expires. I hate to spend 2200 if I do not have to.

Most Lexus dealers will offer the cpo to any pre owned Lexus on their lot. If you plan on keeping the car for a while I would get the extended warranty 7yr 100k warranty. Its total piece of mind knowing that if anything major breaks it will be fixed for the next 100k or 7yrs. I would neg on the price of the car to accomodate the extra warranty expense. Furthermore why are they asking so much? It only cost a lexus dealer $700 to affirm certification through Lexus. Again ask them to meet you half way.

You should've received a CPO certificate, if it's a CPO car. If your bumpers were repainted by dealer as part of the certification process, I would makesure that was noted on your paperwork. If you have a problem with the clearcoat in the future, you will have a hardtime getting it warrantied by another Dealer. If your car has been repainted in anyway, Lexus will not warranty anything other than factory paint. Just an F.Y.I.

Thanks for all the replies. I kind of suspected it was not certified but saw the sticker on the door sill saying certified. I never received a certificate. I think I got a good deal considering the vehicle is flawless and I mean flawless not a ding, scratch, stain etc and was the exact color combination I wanted with 21K miles. I had looked for 6 months, 10 dealers made two prior offeres which were rejected. I paid 28K and the saleslady told me it helped it was the end of the month. To be honest, if I knew the car was as nice as it is when I was negotiating I would have paid more. The car was only on their lot for 4 hours, a Doctor had traded it in on a new LS430, he was the original owner and had all maintenance performed at the Lexus dealership were I purchased. The car was never detailed except the engine compartment, I went up to the dealership as soon as they called. I questioned how they did the certification process with so little time and they assured me they did.

I noticied the powertrain warranty is for 6 years / 70,000 miles. I will not put more than 70K miles in 6 years and can get a 6 year 70K warranty for $1250.00, which is transferable to the next owner while the certification is not. I have time to make up my mind. I may even take a chance and not get any warranty.

Well buying CPO is a good thing to most, but this is my second Lexus and I know how reliable it is. I never had any problems with my ES or my GS. CPO is a bit more and to me it's not worth the additional expense. It's not something that will matter to your finance company or to your insurance carrier.

And from my understanding, even if a car is CPO, it's the dealerships perogative to even perform any work on the car. If they feel they shouldn't, then they won't. I think I remember a thread started a while back regarding this issue. A few people were having problems with dealerships honoring what they beleived they bought and having to resolve it by using Lexus Customer Satisfaction.
